Heart of the Swarm Teaser

Since we originally unveiled Heart of the Swarm back in May, we’ve continued working in secret, laboring in the dark recesses of Blizzard’s sheetrock-lined offices on the dank and gloomy coast of Southern California. Today we showcased a new teaser cinematic of footage rendered entirely within the StarCraft II game engine. Check it out.

Most excellent! I can't wait to see how those new units come into play, I hope we will get most of those in multiplayer.

Is it just me or did the brilliant StarCraft universe epic story just get dwindled down to a petty and disappointing story of revenge against a man who doesn't matter when there are much bigger fish to fry?

Honestly WoL campaign was disappointing enough but now... are you guys even trying? The game-play is great but the story is getting quite lack luster...

@Uregano: You're basing your perception of the storyline on a trailer? That's very ignorant considering you claimed to have played the WoL campaign. Do you not remember the over-arching story of the the Protoss needing the Terran and Zerg to stop the impending apocalypse? There's much more than meets the eye. Watch some of the cinematics and play through the campaign again.

@Kashta: No, there really isn't. Yes the three races must work together to stop the coming doom, cliche, but okay fine. However the entire push in WoL was:

"Hi I'm Jim Raynor, and even though I vowed I would kill Kerrigan ( for betraying me, and killing my sworn brother Fenix ) my revenge is now blood sworn against Mengsk."

There was much bigger fish for him to fry, instead of pursuing Kerrigan he's busy starting a civil war off of a grudge, this was not the Jim we knew from SC1.

And now instead of trying to stop the coming doom Kerrigan is now going after Mengsk. And if you look at the WoL teasers it basically covered the entire storyline for the game. Mengsk was not so important at the end of SC1 or BW as they randomly vamp him up to be in SC2 in terms of our main characters and how their stories play out.

@Uregano: Mengsk was important enough that if Tychus was able to kill Kerrigan, as Mengsk ordered him to, then the prophecy would come true as Kerrigan is found to be crucial int he prevention of the prophecy.

@Uregano:
"And now instead of trying to stop the coming doom Kerrigan is now going after Mengsk."

You just did it again. You think you have the entire storyline mapped out already based on what you saw in a TEASER. A teaser is not supposed to give you the entire story of a game/film, it's supposed to TEASE you. If they showed plot twists in a teaser, that'd be bad.

@Kashta: Again for WoL in that teaser they outlined everything that was going to happen until the last 3 missions and the protoss side missions.

Blizzard managed to stretch an entire campaign along with developing so little on the story line it was upsetting. Now stop with your pseudo-intellectuality and accept the fact that Blizzard is not the company it used to be.

@Uregano: Psuedo-intellectuality? Really? You're the one who's counting chickens before they hatch. I'm not pretending to know anything, I know it. And in reference to the WoL teaser, the only one I recall that was released a while before the game was released (same situation here) is the one where Tychus is being fitted for his infantry suit. See how much story that told? Don't talk down to me like I'm an imbecilic child.

@Uregano: Where exactly did Mengsk come from? I mean, he's always wanted to rule the entire sector but his start as the leader of the Sons of Korhal aren't really explained all that much. He seemed to have gotten what he wanted through charisma and luck. Parts of brood war and the secret WoL mission also hint that Mengsk has been experimenting with zerg/protoss hybrids- hybrids that look pretty much identical to the hybrids that caused the mass destruction seen in zeratul's prophecy. Add in the fact that the prophecy foretells the coming of the xel-naga and the fact that the hybrids seem to take orders from one mysterious powerful being in the future and Mengsk looks pretty suspicious. I at least wouldn't go so far to call him trivial until we find out more.

@Dirge: Not true, if you'll recall from the secret Brood Wars missions, it was Duran who was experimenting with hybrids, and it is heavily implied Duran is not an infested Terran but is in fact a Xel' Naga.

Mengsk was looking into these specimens but its improbable that Mengsk is creating them, but that his men bumped into them in one of Duran's experimental areas.

But knowing the Blizzard staff's recent writing they will probably oh so predictably make Mengsk a conspirator with Duran, whom by the way for some unannounced reason NEVER appeared or was even slightly hinted at in WoL, another frustration with SC:II campaign.

@Uregano: Um, Dr. Emil Narud? Head of the Mobius Foundation? His name is an anagram. And seeing that Valerian owns Mobius, there's probably something going on, though it's most likely not with Arcturus.

@Kashta: Okay, I will give you that possibility, but more than likely I would have to say that Emil is actually exactly what Duran is not. Notice that they are visually opposite and the names are backwards. Their apparent goals do not appear to be in line at all and he shows no signs of corruption.

Plus really stupid for a !@#$%^-ed anagram to be the only potential mention of Duran, yet still a possibility I suppose.

@Uregano: I think this all has something to do with Khan Noonien Singh and the Eugenics Wars in the 1990's. I'm pretty sure it was implied that Cpt. Kirk would once and for all vanquish these genetic abominations from the Korprulu Sector leaving only the Protoss and Klingons as potential future enemies. Wait...what are we talking about again?
