2012 Battle.net World Championship Event

Blizzard Entertainment is proud to announce the 2012 Battle.net World Championship, a major global eSports event featuring some of the best pro-gaming competition in the world. Slated to take place in Asia toward the end of 2012, the Battle.net World Championship will host this year's StarCraft II and World of Warcraft Arena World Championship tournaments. Blizzard gamers and eSports fans from around the world will be invited to attend and witness some of the most skilled pro players on the planet battle it out for cash and glory.

We're excited to be showcasing Blizzard eSports on a truly global stage this year. We're also heavily focused on getting Diablo III, Mists of Pandaria, and Heart of the Swarm into players’ hands as soon as possible. In light of our jam-packed schedule, we've decided to hold the next BlizzCon in 2013.

More details about the 2012 Battle.net World Championship and BlizzCon 2013, including specific dates and locations, will be coming in the months ahead.

I am in China, yet I'm not sure if or not I'm going. The tickets were sold out and I wasn't lucky to get one. P. s. If there's enough WoW universe contents I'm definitely to attend with or without a ticket.

Does anyone else see how much sense this does NOT make? they are hosting the "WOLD CHAMPIONSHIP" in asia... Umm... HELLO... asia is only up to the WotLK expansion as of August 31, 2010. How can they host a "WORLD" championship when they arent even on the same expansion as the rest of the world? this doesnt make any damn sense.

They can't hold BlizzCon 2012 because of all the projects they are working on, yet they are still able to hold a 2012 Battle.net World Championship? This is sort of defeating the purpose of not holding BlizzCon 2012 because they are working on other projects. They could have ditched the Battle.net World Championships and instead still held BlizzCon 2012. I think they wanted to include their Asian players by holding the World Championships there instead of doing BlizzCon in the States like they always have in the past. I'm ok with that but why don't they just say so instead of claiming they are too busy to hold BlizzCon this year. Of course this is just my humble opinion.

@Bearclaws: Every team at Blizzard spends a large chunk of time getting ready for Blizzcon. Some of them spend months. Hosting a Tournament is a much smaller task than what goes into hosting then entire conference.

@unix: It came to my acknowledgement that the WoW division in China is going through a major change. Some ex-Nokia executive is newly in charge of Blizzard's China office, and a whole bunch of co-operations are happening in the coming period.

No Blizzon this year? WTF?!!? What is wrong with you Blizzard? Rather than do what you can to keep your fanbase/players coming back to you, you seem to be doing everything you can to push them away. I was planning on finally being able to attend this year. You have no idea how close I am to giving up on everything Blizzard because you have completely lost sight of what sets you apart. I understand that you have lost money on Blizzcon before, but it's just about the only place it seems you listen to the players, oh wait, you don't anymore. Nevermind. Seriously, I didn't watch Blizzcon to watch championships. I watched it for the dance/costume contests and for your big announcements. So now what event do we have to look forward to? Blizzcon 2013? By then you will have lost so many customers it'll be pointless. Sorry that I'm so angry about this, but I was already getting my costume started and practicing for the dance contest.
