PayPal for Diablo III and Battle.net

We're pleased to announce that in most regions, PayPal will be our payment-service partner for the Diablo III auction house, allowing players who trade with real-world currency the ability to cash out the spoils of their battle-torn adventures via a PayPal account.

PayPal will also soon be added in several regions as a payment option on Battle.net, providing another convenient and secure payment method for digital purchases of Blizzard products and services.

We’ll share region-related specifics, as well as further details on everything mentioned above, in the near future.  Stay tuned!

Hmm I know a lot of people that hit max gold numerous times in wow , Item AH economy in D3 will pan out to be the same. The potential is huge despite all the pessimistic comments about the currency system in D3.
It will be a market pure and simple , cant wait !
$$$ for enjoying a game !

If I can make $15 a month from the RMAH, which will cover my WoW monthly subscription, I'll be over-joyed.

some of you are saying they paypal wont take the 15% if you directly deposit into your bank im sry but they will its not taking 15% to withdraw the money its taking 15% to make the transaction from blizzard to them so it will indeed be taking the 15% and then what ever they want for taking the money out of paypal so theres a 30% fee plus what ever paypals normal fees are so dont get that confused

AWESOME, how could u want anything else, paypal is a awesome system to go with, so easy to link all your credit cards etc to, stable, easy to use, and you are getting money for gaming, this is the first time a game has had a real money auction house, and its diablo 3, an amazing game everyone will have to agree, we are going to get items to be able to sell for real money, 5 years ago even more recently than that if we were only dreaming about a game having a auction house like this.
People, you cannot complain, you are not worthy to complain, we should be thankful companys like blizzard exist trying to satisfy us so badly, bringing out a game with a auction house like this.
I for one cannot wait, i have 25.5 hours to wait exactly and am so extatic. BRING IT ON <3 Blizz

@Razorwind: i dont mine the cuts but i just dont like the 1$ just to list a item rather it sells or not

They won't send the money to PayPal in bulk?! That is !@#-backwards. So I have to decide whether to put the $2.00 I just made into the Blizz account which can only be used for future RMAH purchases or send it to PayPal and make a buck or so on it. What a pain in the $%^. Especially if you are selling multiple items constantly.

"Note that the process of sending proceeds to a third-party payment service will be subject to applicable fees charged by Blizzard and the third-party payment service. Also, any proceeds from the sale of items in the real-money auction house that have been sent to the player’s Battle.net Balance will not be transferrable to the third-party payment service account."

so no sending money in bulk to paypal. so there will be fees on every little item you sell. now dont get me wrong i'm not complaining. i think this is a great idea, just pointing somethings out. there is something else ive noticed when reading all these post, everyone keeps talking about selling there items but how many are going to be pulling out there credit cards? i dont know if i will pay for my items yet. guess i'll have to see how my hunting goes.

Already have a well established PayPal account so this just makes it easier for me. I really don't care that they're going to take their cuts because it's a freebie for me to play a game and get paid for it.
Login to rate
I did the math and this is what I came up with.
Please correct me if I'm wrong.

Sell an item for $100 on the AH (please God)
Blizz takes $1 fee and then if you want to tranfer
the remaining $99 to PayPal you get hit with the Blizz 15%
transfer fee (could be worse, they could have chosen 20%).
That lops off another $14.85 to Blizz and leaves $84.15 heading to your PayPal account.
Now PayPal takes their 2.9% + $.30 and you've got $81.41 in your account for the $100 item you sold on the RMAH.
Not too shabby.

Don't use Paypal and not going to sit here and bag it. However there was mention of being able to cash out to Visa .... ?? what happened this still going ahead .. ? After Blizz take there 15% and Paypel their 15% odd I think it was to get the cash you end up 30% out of pocket I know my visa will charge me but i,m thinkning its not going to be that hefty.

Soo any one know for fact ? Visa go or no ?

@Jatix: Actually, There are payment options that Paypal provides that doesn't have a 15% deduction of the withdrawal fee. I.e. depositing directly to a linked bank account. Or even you are audacious enough, use their Paypal credit card. Those two methods don't incur an additional 15% deduction from your total amount.

As a user of PayPal from the day it opened up (a long time ago), I will say that I have NEVER had any problems. I have several thousand dollars in my account at any given time and transfer money out, on average, once a week. I have never had my funds frozen like others have stated. I think that PayPal is a logical and by far, the best option for funds to be sent to. As for the fees? I trying to get a solid idea of, exactly what they are.

I am concerned about the way this is all set up as I am wondering if the fees will scare people away. 15% is not bad, if that includes ALL of the fees, including the transfer fee. But 30% for gold and other items? that's 1/3 of your sale... TOO MUCH.

I believe that there will still be plenty of selling that goes on outside of the AH.

@Omni: Tell me more. I haven't researched the options on PayPal transfers fully yet. I have a bank account linked as well as a visa debit to that account. If I choose to let it go to PayPal having the bank linked, will that take the extra 15% away?

Well certainly people seem to have varied opinions concerning paypal, however despite the issues that have come up over the years with their service they still remain the one company that is best positioned to provide these services. Not only for being such a widely known name but also for the threw put capacity. Most if not all other similar services would crumple under the weight of the volume of transactions likely to occur with this new market. And yes this is a new real world market. Blizzard has shown through it's WoW auction house an understanding of how to run both the front and back end of an economic tool such as this for many years now. I would anticipate that D3's market will not be a direct rival to WoW's volume thus making this a prime testing ground for this evolution of a virtual economy into a real world marketplace. I for one plan to utilize this service and game as hard and as long as I possibly can. Look forward to seeing you guys online! Good luck, good hunting, and hopefully....GOOD PROFITS!

@Evilhaze: you can change your paypal account info to anything you want as well as the bank you sending/receiving.

All you need is your routing number and your account number; both can be found on the bottom of your checks.

@Chancerei: Word! Just think about it like this: You could not be making any money and let 3rd party dealers spam again. That way, you aren't potentially making any money, and they are bugging you up the wazoo. Which would you prefer? 15% off your total earnings, or be forced to resort to 3rd party sites if you want to buy something. When faced with two evils, I'd pick the one that makes me money ^_^

Actually, no. I thought it would be a great partnership, too.

However, the ugly truth is... you will pay a hefty 15% fee to cash out to Paypal, AND you can only do it if you own a cell phone.

This means some people will be screwed. I unfortunately am one of them.

@Hudson: Sorry to hear you feel that your screwed by this system. However I'd advise you to look into some of the many options open to you for obtaining cell phone service. Some are exceedingly cheap. Or if you're not living alone you could always utilize (with their permission of course) the cell service of someone you reside with for a short while until you farm the cash you'd need to establish phone service. I think you get the idea that there are no really insurmountable obstacles to using this system if you will just take responsibility for yourself and your situation.

I refuse to use PayPal. See nopaypal.com for reasons why.

So given PayPay's long and well-documented history of unscrupulous business practices, it has to be asked if Blizzard will support any other means of transferring funds to and from the real-money auction house.

Good explanation Fenix...

Some of these players are making invalid arguments; about taking away the ability to let players find items and what not - Blizzard is NOT making "micro-transactions". People still need to find items to put in AH. Blizzard isn't giving players with RL money an unfair advantage; if a player finds a good item and wants to get rid of it, using RL money in 'ADDITION' to the game currency AH just opens up trading options.

As far as PayPal locking your account or whatever it may be; the funds you make when selling items goes into your Blizzard account, so you can use it on Blizzard related products. If you wish to transfer the money you made to your Paypal account, lets say after you made $50 dollars or so, you can do that for 15% transaction fee (Paypal will charge Blizzard, so Blizzard charges you)

To avoid mass hysteria, I am sure Blizzard and PayPal have come to a solid agreement on this matter.
