Diablo III

Diablo Turns 15

Diablo Turns 15

It’s a rare occasion when we’re able to mark the 15-year anniversary of not only a game, but an entire universe. In 1996, the original Diablo® introduced gamers to the cursed town of Tristram… and the twisted, ancient evil that dwelled beneath it. Diablo II and its expansion, Lord of Destruction®, transformed a claustrophobic dungeon-crawler into a sprawling adventure that drew players into the wider world of Sanctuary. Today, with Diablo III on the horizon, we’d like to celebrate all of the memorable moments that have marked the last decade and a half of Diablo history.

Please join us in celebrating Diablo’s 15-year anniversary -- and we invite you to share your own Diablo memories with us by using the Twitter hashtag #Diablo15

I remember playing the first diablo, then playing the second. I spent much of my time on these games and will likely spend most of my time on the new installation.

I found my Diablo disc a few months ago and got it running on my Win7 box. Game would still stand up if it was re-skinned and a bigger backpack.

I have fond memories 15 years ago watching my friend play diablo. Even though I wasn't playing it, i was drawn into the adventure and story. Every few levels where the environment changed, from catacombs to caves etc made my heart skip a beat, i truly felt we were delving into the middle of the earth. Needless to say when D2 came out I spent many years going thorugh all difficulties with all characters. I have started playing it again recently to build myself up for the next installment. Congrats on 15 years Blizz, it has been a fun ride. Looking forward with anticipation to D3!

All the impatient people need to take a chill. You want the game to be good? Let them keep testing it. They are trying to make the game as best for us as possible before they release it to the public. They are doing this for you and all you can do is sit there and complain about how its taking them too long.

@Halazar: we are impatient because they announced it all the way back in 2008... and they are pretty much done with the game and they can announce a release date anytime now but they won't which is what's frustrating a lot of blizzard fans... and also there will be a lot of post-release patches so there's no reason why they can't just give us a firm release date

Whatever you do, don't release it too early. The last thing I want is another SWTOR. I'll wait another year if it means it's not laggy and buggy every time I try to play it.

Congratulations and Happy New-Year, Blizzard Entertainment. I started my MMO (and basically my entire gaming life) 15 years ago in Tristram, I suffered Reigns of Chaos and embarked on a new World throughout my adventures. You raise the bar with games that are unique, diffinitive, and not to mention- addicting. It's great to see how far the universe has come, I hope to see you back in it by the end of this year. I can promise I'll be there.

I kinda wanted to play D1 for this anniversary and couldn't find my old disks. They should put it on the blizz store or in the collector's edition. Not that I really care but would have been cool to celebrate its birthday by playing it.

"Awwww fresh meat...." still strikes fear in my brother and I's heart. The butcher was just so fast, it took us like 2 weeks for my older brother to finally take him down and claim his cleaver as our own

I remember my first multi-player character: a rogue named "Bonnie Parker". I remember the first player I murdered on Battle.net. I fondly recall the PK guild I joined, Inferno, and the swathe of destruction we carved. I recall habing to make a "mule" character just to hold all the ears I colected as I was loathe to discard any of them. I recall the old Ogden's Tavern forum and all the craziness that occured there. I remember the "Diablo's Most Wanted" site were people posted rewards for the killing of other players and the sense of pride when I first saw a bounty out for my ear. Being one of the bad guys was fun and being hated and feared by the player base on battle.net was great.

Sadly, those days are long since gone and glory days of Diablo PKing will never return.

It's really too bad that games are so soft nowadays eh? I'm totally down for griefing, it creates an irreplaceable feeling of true danger online.
