Spent 100 Mill on Archon Wiz: Why still suck?

I dropped 100 Million gold on my Archon Wizard yesterday (view profile).

After playing AH for two hours, I hit MP7 with a tanky barb friend (who's probably dropped 20 Million on his character). I did MUCH better as SNS or Ray of Frost CM Wiz, however I much prefer Archon.

Please take a look at my gear and stats. After dropping 100 Million, why did I still suck in our MP7 run last night? If I hit packs of mobs just right I melt their face, but my survivability is awful and I did constantly.

Why do I still suck (concerning gear). Please ENLIGHTEN ME!

without looking at your gear (i'm on my way out of work....to return to the forums tomorrow morning!)...I'm pretty sure that the gear to run Archon at the highest MP levels gets exponentially more expensive after MP5. Archon is great for exp and trash farming at the lower MP's, but is tough to gear for >MP5. SNS can survive, cheaply, at any MP level, but still requires expensive gear at high MP.

I'm guessing that with 100M you don't have the DPS to kill things fast enough before they get to you. And you dont' have the mit to tank them when that happens.

that...or, you didn't watch Jaetch's video: us.battle.net/d3/en/forum/topic/9793089550

Soooo glassy... :)

Check your profile on D3UP and one of my favorites: an old Jaetch's Giveaway Contest profile, and see the difference:

What can you spot as mostly different between the 2 ? I know the reference profile can run MP7 "somewhat" smoothly.

I can hint you on 1 macro-thing: EHP (in terms of mitigation). You are too glassy for upper MP's, although you got DPS enough for MP6 or 7 in my opinion.

So, based on that, what do you think you're lacking on your char ?

Well, I'm not going to repeat what's already been said already, so I'll just say this as straightforwardly as possible.

If you're dying over and over, then you are playing a MP level where you clearly don't have the survivability stats to cope with incoming damage.*

Edit: *Unless you're YORI, but then you need health globe bonuses and passive regeneration and some dex

Looking at specifics here -- you don't need three items of movement speed. If you have Lacunis, there is not a good reason to wear bike shorts. Yeah, yeah, you want attack speed, but clearly, as you said you died constantly, that is not working. If you wear bike shorts, then don't wear Lacunis. You don't need to make any kind of breakpoint here.

Since everyone is just dancing around it, I'll come out and say it. You are dying because you have 28000 life, and almost no resist all (400 AR). You are made of glass.

Re-gear for less damage and more life and AR.

60k hps and 93% or GTFO!!!!

I want to facetank 3 arcane sentries, in a pool of tree puke, while getting molten bombed by three fire chained Savage Beasts.

...if that's not possible, I don't want to live.

In all seriousness, OP, archons are notorious for shooting for their DPS ceiling to the detriment of everything else. But what really makes the difference in efficiency is when you finally figure out that balance really does matter.

As everyone else has said, it's mitigation that's really holding you back. You should be soloing MP3 (maybe MP4) and you're not going to seriously contribute dps-wise to an MP7 group...yet.

67K HP, 93.4% mit, almost 700K DPS, 2.7% LS here... it's not possible :P

Take out the tree poison and subtract one molten explosion and it'll be fine. Consecutive explosions are fine, just not simultaneous. Oh, and as long as all three Arcane Sentries aren't rotating at point blank range.

Just played archon for the first time and I am addicted. I am bidding on a nice ace and tal's chest that should increase my dps/ehp, which MP should I be looking at for solo play and group play (My profile is logged out with archon buffs)

100mil isn't really enough for high dps/ehp archon.

I also spent ~100mil for archon on my second account(got bored so made wiz on Asian server during blizz update), but i went for high dps setup so shes got ~300k dps unbuffed(but with low ehp n non ls weapon).

Try teleport archon to get out of nasty situation, helps a lot when you have low ehp.

So here is my 2 cents, you are at paragon 20 so patience will be your friend get strong arm bracers w/all res and vit, get an ammy with vit, crit change, crit damage all res would be nice but the price can get ugly on a budget or if you have some demonic essence try some crafting for this slot. Chest try for a zuni it comes with all res and you get the extra 55 all res set bonus try for 100 vit at least. Change the rune on the energy armor to prismatic for added res.

Yes your dps will drop but there will be a little more balance for short money and some luck with the crafting. Stay at mp 4 in pubs or with friend get the xp and as you climb P-levels things will get better. It`s not a science but it does require a little getting used to the game play of life versus damage, Don`t forget you are not a tank kite if you need to and survive for another day that is the way.

Good luck happy hunting and see you at P-100 someday.

If you want some recommendations for EHP and DPS values to shoot for or to see what sort of MP you might be able to run reasonably well, check that post out. It is based on my own experience with farming higher MP and scaled to match lower MP. I did test it at low MP also so it should work fairly well.

For MP7 I recommend around 276k dps and 375k EHP. Your dps seemed to match pretty well but if I'm using the site right, your EHP is only around 233k buffed and in Archon form. That's why you're having problems surviving, as others have said. Higher hp will help with burst damage while extra armor and resists will help with sustained damage and RD mobs. I recommend trying to get that EHP up to at least 300k before trying MP7 again, but feel free to use your own play experience to see what levels you need for acceptable play. Keep in mind the table in the link above is based on solo play with BM, so it is mostly just meant to be a guideline to direct you towards some goals. The values themselves are quite subjective.

As far as gearing, I would get a mempo. Assuming you can't afford one with CC, find one with a bonus int/vit roll, so 200+int, 50+vit, and stick a life% gem in it if needed. That will give you a lot of extra EHP from the large hp increase and the bonus AR. You'll lose a little dps, but you should still be fine.

I'd also work on crafting bracers, if you haven't already. The first goal would be high CC, high AR, and vit, even if you only have like 200-220 int. Ideally you'd want a double int roll with high AR, high CC and vit, but that can take a while depending on how lucky you are. Extra physical resist on it is a plus.
