splash damage chance

my Area Damage stat gives 32%

the tooltip reads

Splash damage Chance: 32%
all attacks have a 20% chance to also deal 32% of the damage to enemies within 10 yards
can be increased with items


guessing it meant to say "Splash damage Boost: 32%" not chance 32%
the 20% rate is fixed according to items not Plvls and the 10 yards seems like it can be scaled as well

is this the type of thing that procs only once per attack?
hitting 10 mobs with 1 volatile proc 5 of em?

very hard to gauge how effective this is when you gear outright for it but I really like the idea of taking a ST hard hitter and turning it into an AoE machine

by the wording it should add
1. to all attacks
2. deal damage to all enemies within 10 yards (include primary target)
3. reflect our dps when value various (chc/chd calculation)

They can of course redo the tooltip and make it an even more not wanted affix.

because I run zero splash% currently
I run FoK/Bola/Lfb all AoE skills + NG(3) stacks = many gold splash pops

AFAIK we have 3 types of Nephalem Glory

I'm calling them

1. Acceleration
+% movement (+10%, confirmed?)
2. Explosion
+% weapon damage as aoe (10 yards) damage on hit (100% proc)
3. Reaction
+% weapon damage as chain lightning on hit (100% proc). Hit up to 3 within 20 yards

Pickup the same type of NG as holding will reset timer back to 2 min and remove the other NG bonus. Picking up different types of NG will create a stack on the buff icon. Picking a Health Globe will add 10 seconds to the duration (max back to 2 min).

The Splash Damage Mech is separate, here is a video.

The affix does not have any animation.
And so far we have to use a single target attack to trigger.

I hate maths....

How do we take advantage of this?

Strongest single target skill is RF / FS right?

So we build something like max splash and fire RF / FS?

I don't confirm -- @Kirus my PTR tests refute that, it possible they silently changed things since you tested

Bola:ID with (2-3 initiates) +27min * 534 dex
32/50 Area damage = 32% damage

not only a proc with an AoE ability but in this rare occurrence (expected 5%) I was able to get a double proc as both targets bola explosion splashed back to one another.

proof in the numbers
2-3 with +27min ring *534 dex * 2.16 = 397 = main target getting 216%
273 is close to expected 29 * 6.34 * 1.48 = 272.11 off-target
the 127 is 32% off 397
the 87 is 32% off 273

Off-target triggers back at primary since 87 is 32% of 273 and not the primary's 397

zoid, sorry to disappoint you but it might just be my fault because I tested it 2 days ago.

I don't have a good test weapon, and since the devs has removed the in-game damage range check (blank skill should show mmd of our weapon damage but it now says 100% weapon damage) it was hard for me to find a good weapon.

I think the real problem we might have is the proc rate. Does it get reduced by proc coefficient. The chance might just be lower for aoe and I missed it. I think you know what I mean.

When you tested it does it have a 20% chance?

Bola:BP 30 procs took 138 shots (21.7%~)

expectation is two targets @20% which means 20% + 20%(80%) = 36% proc
with proc coef we should see half that (18%)
**edit actually coef operates first I think, so it's not (.2+.2*.8)*.5 but rather (.1) + (.1*.9) = 19%

statistics
chance 30/138 when you expect 26.22 is likely, about 1 in 17
vs
chance 30/138 when you expect 49.68/138 is unlikely, about 1:9000

looks like it might be affected by Coef, but to confirm I want to use a pure ST skills (over penetration) 50% coef (33 loh triggers 16 life) monster adjacent
9 procs from 87 samples = 10.3%

yah looks like Coef matters..(or number of targets is taken into account somehow), disappointing but not a surprise. Also can confirm 33 LoH never adjusted from proc; Area Damage will not give LoH

So Splash will not proc stuff that needs a Proc Coeff.. But does it crit?

Now that'll be harder to test since.. if it crits, I'd like to know if it'll trigger NS which is.. if it does.. will be epic for DHs.

There is no proc (I think) but it definitely crits. You can even see it in my video on top. DiE just told me in game that ToC also proc splash and crits so that is something we should think about.

Chrizzle I think you shouldn't worry to much about NS. I have been playing in ptr looping infinite Hatred with Punishment and no way to regen other than my base +1/sec. My spender are all over 30 Hatred before adding scr.

We have 2 resource and both of them can be reduced by scr unlike cdr it doesn't have a reduction in value.

Now we just need a new affix that adds to the chance for splash.

It is going to be underwhelming if its proc rate remain at 20%.

btw has anyone be able to stack to 100% or more?

Actually, I'm in no way worrying about NS ;)

I'm just speculating as much as to up to what extent can we actually, ABUSE, that skill ;)

I can play with NS and Prep-Punishment quite well too :#

Apparently splash damage goes above 100%

The damage dealt to the surrounding can be higher than the damage dealt to the primary. I guess the chunk of meat flying off that mob deals more damage than my attack.

I have splash damage on weapons, rings, shoulder and gloves (6 items).
+79% and +48% (paragon) = 127%

item level (59-60)
weapon roll is between 12-18
shoulder roll is between 8-14
glove roll is between 8-14
ring roll is between 8-14
ring roll is between 10-16 (hellfire ilvl60?)

Has anyone found it rolling on other items?

Lol. talk about broken CLEAVE mechanics.. since the damage you deal to enemies around your main target isn't "mitigated" :3

I think that's from WC3 engine, DotA to be exact.

Will splash work for Barbarian - Hammer of the Ancient?
It would be awesome if we don't need Battle Rage anymore.

The 8 yard doesn't feel 'area' at all actually.
At least, splash + Mark 4 Death is good for DH - Impale, i think.
