Dashing Strike + Cyclone Strike, Viable?

Heya all,

New monk here, just turned 60 while running MP10 in Hell difficulty, and not sure if my build is going to be workable in Inferno (not MP10, probably MP1-5 or so). What I tend to do is use Dashing Strike for mobility while pulling mobs into my monk's immediate striking range, then use either WOL or EP for AOE damage.

Right now, I've been focusing a lot of defense over offense, concentrating on Armor, Resists, and Dodge, while using Life on Hit items to sustain my toon through waves of elite packs.

The question I have is, is the use of Dashing Strike viable in higher difficulties, and if so, what runes would work best with it? If not, what are some better alternatives?

Yes DS is most definitely viable at higher difficulties. In fact if you're dual wield it is pretty much a "you're doing it wrong" if it isn't on your bar haha. DS-Quicksilver is the go to rune for that skill. It has other useful runes but the reduction in spirit cost is just so good most go with that rune. DS is even better in the PTR/Beta and is just fantastic skill overall. About the only time it is replaced for another skill is if you're swinging a big Ol' 2H'r. Then TR becomes the mobility skill of choice.

I'm going to cut and paste a starter pack in here for you seeing how you're a new lv60. Just keep in mind somethings like Life Steal (LS) and the Nirvana synergy are going to be fazed out soon by loot 2.0/xpac. So here comes a lot of info for you :)

You can run MP10 for under 100K if you camp the AH. Spear-Chucker is an artist when it comes to the budget builds so look over his characters on his profile for more ideas. Check the budget gearing guides I linked below, he's the author of both.

Quick Tip: Craft, Craft, and Craft some more of all the special Archon recipes. The crafting plans are dropped in game as loot and can also be found on the AH.

Survivability:
The "Rule of 5s" is the guideline to entry level MP10 survivability stats. The 5s are... 5%+ LS, 5K armor (w/STI passive), 50K HP, 500 res ( with or without OWE passive), 500K eHP (d3up.com is the go to site for this info).

Increase survival stats ahead of DPS stats. Get to the point you can take on elite packs without dying then work on increasing DPS to kill them fast. Then bump up the MP and start the process over again. As for the kill 'em fast part...

DPS:
Try for 50CC, 500CD, and 3K+ dex. Add as much IAS as you want to get a good "feel" while attacking. Usually around 40% IAS feels right to many monks and other stats are chased after that.
