Diablo® III

Any shield monks out there? ^.^

I slapped on my DH gear, my barb sword, my DH shield, some high dex vit crafts and came out this!

I'm curious to know how viable shield monks are compared to 2H or DW? ;o

I've always thought that the easiest way to use DH gear to make a Monk is to just use the same gear and add a sword and shield. So, ya. Looks about right.

Viable? As in: can play on the highest MP and play a bunch of different builds? Absolutely. I can't imaging that you're really having much trouble with your set up.

Kill things as quickly as a 2H-er on average? No.

Die less? Probably.

Much harder to give hugs with shield in the way.

Nyan, def check out the S&B thread... A lot of good info there. My first monk went to 100 about 90% of the way S&B.. JCo is still around I believe but mostly on HC.

Couple quick gear swaps for you would be to go with an Innas helm since your Mempo is 8/3.5 and WH belt, probably sticking w AR on one of the pieces. If you are able to maintain your stats for the most part you can probably drop STI from your passives and still be good to go.

I found my shield yesterday and going to play with shield for awhile. It has Cold res, which is my choice of Res and monk skill WoL. Check it out and tell me what you think...

You'll be able to survive easily, but good luck beating the enrage timers on the bosses on decent mps.

I have been running mp10 for exp with a shield from about 140k dps, now can get to about 210k depending how squishy I go. It works just fine.EP is a great equalizer

MP-10 Belial's the biggest gear-check enrage timer in the main game and you only really need about 150K DPS to take him down.

I think the MP-10 Ubers can be done with about 170K DPS for the ZK/SB combo.

(Maybe someone out there can do it with less)

Both of those are more or less minimums and assume you'll be able to use a very offensive build - things like Combo Strike and Beacon of Ytar. A shield does make it much more viable to ditch defensive skills and passives, so there's that.

I don't know the exact state of the AH nowadays. But I'm guessing that it's probably cheapest to go the Skorn route if you want to be able to solo all the content on MP-10. A shield is probably the most expensive way to go. It's certainly all doable with a shield, though.

Did you see how good his shield is?

Shield monks are the best! I use mine (Hallowed) mostly due to looks (and to solo ubers). [ http://i.imgur.com/xsjpFgW.png ]

Nice, I have a pretty sweet LTK shield on my male monk saved up, but guess it should find a WoL one as well just incase ^_^

But with the upcoming transmog option available, we can only hope to transmog into some Crusader shields! Some of them look pretty beast.

I started as a shield monk, then quickly went DW, but I am loving the shield again on PTR.

I equipped my PTR weapon and shield in my profile, but the rest of my gear and skills are a mixed bag, mostly for TR build so just ignore that. Anyhow, on PTR I am pushing T4 with pure vanilla gear and no sustain besides about 500 LPS, paragon points, and skills.
