Introduction A few things to know
With RoS followers were greatly improved and can now deal a very decent amount of damage, even in higher tourments. Some of their skills and stats were modified inducing new behaviors to adopt in gameplay. Some of the max stats given here, such as MF or block chances, can be made higher by combining actual and legacy items.

Disclaimer : some follower's templates efficiency depend on which difficulty they are used on.

• Set bonus do not applies to followers.
• Follower's buff goes away when he dies, that goes only for passive buffs, equipment bonus stays active, same with active buffs or CCs that were previously casted (note : a followers never "dies", just goes KO).
• MF/GF/%xp/+pts xp buffs applies to you with a 1/5 ration, they don't fade away even if your followers goes KO.
• All stats are effective on followers, such as elemental damage bonus, CDR, bonus vs. elites etc. Exceptions : all ressources related stats, mouvement speed
• Follower will appreciate legendaries you thought were crap for you.
• Legendary gems do not work on followers

Note : AS max stat given below is assuming one use regular items. There's a fun fact about http://us.battle.net/d3/en/item/oculus-ring wich can roll a native 9%AS and get an other stat rerolled into 7%AS, which gives 16% AS. If this is intended, then such a rerolled ring will become BIS in many followers builds.

5. Unity & Immortal follower combo

The ring Unity special effect is effective on followers, http://us.battle.net/d3/en/item/unity
In combination with the legendaries followers token wich gives immortality to them greatly reduce the damage your characters suffers. One can maximize this by taking off all vitality and %life stats on follower gear, rerolling those for main stat, damage mitigation or utility. That way the immortal follower HP are the close to a naked follower HP, the damage taken are then even lower.

Some players claim that this combo by himself is enough to play in T6 and hence is unintended. For some other players, it´s intended, to have to sacrifice a ring in order to pull the combo out is fair enough. Update : devs have stated that the unity combo is intended for solo play.

• Templar Unity
No vit, no %life, and no life regen

6. How do I gear my followers ?

6-1. Finding equipment
Finding gear for follower may seems tricky in regard of the smart loot system. The Brighton side is that smart loot is not systematic so you do have a fair chance to find gear white is not for your class. An other source of gear would be IG trading in multiplayer games, (most of the time that would be donations instead of actual trading).

Crafting is a solution. Both blacksmith and jeweler have interesting items. You will need at least a lvl one character in each main stat class to fully use crafting. Note that the Brabarian is more effective to gear up templar since he can't use crusader's schield.

Gambling Blood shards with Kadala is a great way to obtain follower gear, yet it has a downside : you will need a lvl 70 character with the same mainstat than the follower you intendant to gear up. Again, Barbarian and Wizzard will be more effective than Crusadeŕs or WD.

Last but not least, some of the horadric caches specific legendaries are just great for followers and fairly easy to obtain.

6-2. Enchanting
Followers ChD are now capped at 150%, and got a notice 50% ChD That makes enchanting far more simple. Always look for near 100% ChD on follower token. That way ChD are not needed anymore. Amulets and second rings are now ChD free, wich leaves room for damage range or convenient reroll.

For weapons, some of them already have a native 35% ChD making this stats even easier to handle. When a weapon already have your follower main stat, always look for a socket. In some case, the stat to reroll into a socket will be very easy to choose.

Lvl 60 item are to be kept for followers : from a CC perpective and for some special procs they are still usefull at lvl. 70, and cost way more less to reroll (amys and rings).
For the Enchantress, you will need to have a lvl 1 Wizzard in order to reroll something into arcane dmg bonus.

6-3. Gems
For the reason exposed above, the 150 ChD cap, the only gem one will need for a weapon socket is ruby. Diamond can be use for a specific + élite dmg bonus stached weapon for boss fight (yes Malthaël, i'm looking at you).
Main stat gems are good way to add extra damage, amethysts are quite useless.

500k dps follower gearing how-to : http://www.reddit.com/r/Diablo/comments/24shkc/how_to_gear_followers_to_over_500k_damage/
(Note that eDPS won't be as efficient as a 300k + %elemental + cdr follower)

7. Ashera’s set.

A few things to know.
• Followers appear for about 30 seconds and there's a 30s CD.
• The way followers will aim, engage, and place themselves will dépend on your character direction.
• Gear bonuses given by followers such as MF, GF, exp, etc. do not stack.
• Passives skills buffs do stack.
• Legacy Puzzle Ring won't proc on summoned Followers, (it will proc for your main hired follower in solo game).
• Followers summoned by Asheara's do not have their attack speed increased by Tasker and Theo. (Not sure if their damage is increased by Mask of Jeram.)
• Unity won't proc on summoned Followers, (it will proc for your main hired follower in solo game).

The Ashera's set bonus is great since it allows a large variety of build synergy with your character and among followers. From a damage perspective, they can provide over 1500k DPS, and even more eDPS. One can use a combination of Templates stated above or multiply specifics features x3.

For example, here's a great combination :
- ligthning weapons for every follower (+ ligthning skill and Buriza for scoundrel)
- Pandémonium loop x3
- Ess of Johan x3
- Wyrdward x3

Unity x 3 on summoned immortal followers does not work.

In solo play, one would benefit of unity+main follower damage mitigation even if the main follower for immortality token, if there's no main follower, the Ashera's 4p bonus will activate but the unity proc will not be applied on each follower wearing immortality token. So on summoned followers, immortality token will negates unity effect. For non immortal followers, the unity will work as intended. Note that summoned non-immortal followers will not share damage mitigation with group in multiplayer.

8.So... Wich follower must i choose ?

It's a common belief among D3players that a follower would be the most suited for a specific class. Not really a wrong thinking but it's quite inacurate.
There's three way to consider a follower choice :
- bonuses point of view : depend on your build to compensate a lack of characteristic (then your choice is as+armor, chc or extra damage, resource regeneration and heal). Or the parangon farming need : MF/GF/XP.
- skill point of view : passive combination, cc in order to complete your gameplay.
- field point of view : enchantress for corridors and enclosed spaces, scoundrel for opened fields, and templar for bosses/single target fights.

One must take into consideration that a specific follower build will be effective at a given difficulty and become useless at higher difficulty. Same goes with passive and proc synergy : a follower build might be OP for a barbarian and utterly useless for a DH. Same goes for instance if you use item like Strongamar Bracers : a Windforce Scoundrel or a pushing Enchantress will be more effective than a standard Tempar. Hence asking for shared followers or account followers is a nonsense.

Edit : the Strongarm combo seems to have undergone some changes
07/29/2014 06:11 PMPosted by Grimiku
07/25/2014 04:13 PMPosted by Psychologic
Edit: Just retested. Forceful Push does not proc the increased damage from Strongarm Bracers. Likewise, Windforce would only give the extra damage if used by the character wearing the Strongarms, so it doesn't help you if the Scoundrel has that bow (other than for general crowd control).

I had to dig around to be sure, but you're right. There was a change that prevented this from working any more, and I just never bothered to adjust my followers accordingly. Good catch, and thanks for letting me know. I'll go back to my previous post and edit the info so that I'm not spreading bad information. Thanks again!

In my opinion, the best way to use follower at your avantage is to use all 3 of them according to the situation (Caches farming, Rifts, Bosses, etc.).

Answers to those questions may vary depending of your class or build... As stated in 8. Chapter.

For your main character, regarding your build and passive, your "ideal" follower would be Templar with Inspire skill in a Life support build. But if you have no need for an other Hate supply, then you should consider the use of Scoundrel (synergie between, Anatomy+Wolf+CA).

Followers ChD are now capped at 150%. That makes enchanting far more simple. Always look for near 100% ChD on follower token. That way you just have to seek 50% more one single ring. Amulets and second ring are now ChD free, wich leaves room for damage range or convenient reroll.

Followers have base 50% critical damage, that and 100% on tokens will reach the cap.

gj on the guide, been waiting on this.

what i think you could upgrade.

1. choose the best follower for each class or for each specific situation if per class choice would be too hard.

2. BiS for each follower.

The Unity+immortal followers combo is effective at least in solo play (need confirmation for multiplayer).

I can confirm that it doesn't work in multiplayer.

That would be a no go. You should re-read n°8 : What follower should I choose ?

There's no such a thing as best follower for a given class. It will depend on build and gear. For instance, many class will go for templar for ressource generation and claim that it's the best choice. But a soon as you're playing with, let's say, strong-arm bracers, a Windforce scoundrel will be OP.

Same goes for difficulty level, a fumace Enchantress will be OP in T6 and not as useful as other followers in lower torments...Or you will face same question for boss fights...

2. BiS for each follower.

Again, there's no straight answers to tat matter. Of course for amulets, BIS are Moonward and Overwhelming Desire, some Rings do often come in followers builds. But BIS conception will differ if your looking for a CC follower or a damage one. Same goes for weapons, a strong-arm user will claim that Windforce is BIS, others will go for Buriza. From a utility point of view, Nagel Ring, Leoric Signet or Hellfire rings would be BIS.

A single answer for BIS item would be dishonest and controversial. If you have questions about your followers orientation in regards of a specific item or build, i will gladly answer in this topic.

How did you test this ? I mean, were you and your followers using Unity and no other player did or all of your teammates had Unitys ?

I have plenty of contradictory feedbacks on this matter, so it's getting a little confusing.

My apologies if i haven't read things here correctly,

But can i confirm which exact stats on items equipped by the follower, will carry across to the main character?

Is it just magic find/gold find/+xp etc, in a 1/5 portion as mentioned,

Or do the +ele skill damage, +elite skill damage, - elite damage reduction etc skills apply to both you and the follower?

also, does cool down reduction, reduced resource cost, etc, transfer across to you as well? or does it just stay with your follower?

Furthermore, would the buff from unique amulets and rings apply to your own character? -- for e.g. with a light spec, if you equip a wydward ring on a follower, will the stun chance on light damage transfer across to you yourself? or only apply to damage dealt by the follower themselves?

Sorry if these have already been answered in the thread but i couldn't work it out.

Cheers
