Why did Baal want his soulstone from Marius?

Baal already had his soul in Tal Rasha's body so what was the point in the soulstone? Did it have some soul fragments in it or something?

Well for one thing we've seen him use it a few times in spellcasting.

Tal rasha was keeping baal's soulstone in his chest and therefore imprionoing baal inside his own body forever, prettymuch like the wanderer. However baal was locked in that dungeond and the wanderer was free.
The soulstone is a way for the prime evils to walk on sanctuary while in their true form and power. Without them, they cant be their trueselves and cant use ther full power.
The wanderer usesd the body of the warrior as a "disguise" and went to the east in order to free baal, but he already knew that Tyrael would be there to try to stop him. So he forced Marius to make the journey along with him, so that when needed, Baal could use his powers to influence Marius mind and force him to remove the soulstone from the chest of Tal Rasha's body, freeing Baal, while Diablo was fighting against Tyrael.
After the events of classic D2, Baal went in search of Marius, knowing that Marius woulb be unable to fullfil Tyrael's task of entering the portal and destroying his soulstone. So, when he finally found Marius, he disguised himself as Tyrael and convinced Marius to give him the soulstone, allowing Baal to regain full strrenght and try to complete his major objective: To corrupt the Worldstone, kept in Mt Arreat.

In a cinematic, when Baal arrives at the gates of arreat, we can see how baal uses the stone to create some magial whirlwinds which makes the guardian explode.

Pretty sure I remember reading somewhere that when Baal was being sealed in his soulstone it was damaged in the fight, so by itself it wasn't strong enough to hold Baal. Tal Rasha voluntered to keep him sealed.

With that I'd say Baals soul and the soul of the other two were always in the soulstones and they just possessed the bodies of very powerful humans from within the soulstones.

The soulstones needed for them to be at full power not to sure about that since the world was created by an angel and demon who could exist at full power.

Might make sense if the worldstone was holding them from getting to sanctuary so they used the soulstones to get into the world for a bit and corrupt the worldstone so they could get to full power with their actual bodies or something

Or he needed to corrupt the worldstone. We are pretty sure that the worldstone was the original source of the soulstones. Perhaps he embedded his own soulstone into the worldstone (hence the corruption)?

Baal's soulstone was damaged during his capture and is only a fragment of the original. Which is why Tal Rasha offered to stab it into his chest.. he thought he could keep the demon at bay.

Diablo's soulstone was whole though.. why the heck did the warrior from d1 have the great idea to shove it into his skull??

Well Tal Rasha did succeed. Being the head of the horadrim he was pretty much the most powerful human in the world. He keeps Baal imprisoned quite well until Marius takes out his soulstone and Tal Rasha needs to fight against the full power of Baal and fails

Diablo's soulstone wasn't whole, in the D1 manual it states that Lazarus found the soulstone and shattered it. Later we find out he kidnapped Leoric's son and drove the shard into the boy's skull to anchor Diablo to the corporal world.

Hopefully that fallen star isnt a new worldstone from outerspace. It brought back the skeleton king from "hell" i presume.

Because by that time the warrior was already being corrupted by Diablo, so like Tal Rasha he gets the bright idea to contain Diablo by taking the soulstone into his own body. However the idea is planted by Diablo and he doesn't have any of the extra defenses to actually contain him. So Diablo gets to inhabit the body of a powerful warrior instead of a sickly child.

The other heroes get corrupted by Diablo while in the labyrinth and fall under his sway as well but they probably didn't make it far enough to jam a big red crystal into their skulls (in canon anyways, in the end cinematics all three shove the crystal into their head)

Maybe the other two Heroes jammed a smaller piece into their respective foreheads the same way the Council members jammed smaller pieces of Mephisto's soul stone into their hands (Hence why they all have hand related names)

the soulstones allow the prime evils to store energy and keep them from withering into little imps.
Baal searches out his soulstone which happens to be in the hands of marius. who was told to break the soulstone, Baal wants to know if he did. marius is stupid and takes baal for tyrael because of his guilty conscience. Baal decides to toy with marius, an effect of having tal rashas arrogant personailty bound with his own destructive one. When the time comes Baal reveals himself and as an act of bizarre kindness puts marius out of his maddened misery.
