Diablo® III

Diablo 3 Story Spoiler

The Worldstone has been shattered and now the boundaries that shielded Sanctuary from the Burning Hells and High Heavens have evaporated. Sanctuary is now vulnerable for invasion by not only the Burning Hells, but also the High Heavens. The world teeters on the brink of all out war/annihilation. Armageddon is at hand.

Situation in Hell.....
The Burning Hells are suffering from a massive civil war between the two dominate Lesser Evils (forget their names) for dominion over Hell as a result of the power vacuum created when all three Prime Evils were seemingly destroyed. An invasion of Sanctuary has not occurred as a result of this civil war, and will not proceed until a new leader of Hell is realized...

Situation in Heaven...
Meanwhile in the High Heavens, the Angiris Council is debating the current future of Sanctuary and whether or not the High Heavens will invade first. Tyrael, already on thin-ice for destroying the Worldstone against the wishes of the Council, is of course still pushing for an alliance with humanity against the forces of Hell. Imperius, who has always been in favor of destroying Sanctuary and the humans for the threat they pose, is now more vigilant than ever. With the Worldstone destroyed, the powers of the Nephalem will return to the humans, who could consequently choose to eradicate Heaven and Hell alike and seal Sanctuary away for eternity. Citing the recent failures of humanity to adequately keep the demons at bay and Tyraels destructive negligence, he finally garners enough support from the Angiris Council to declare war on Sanctuary and exile Tyrael from the High Heavens.

Situation in Sanctuary...
"Justice will fall on the world of man..." (Tyrael is the ArchAngel of Justice)
Tyrael is cast out of Heaven as the "falling star", which crash lands into the Tristam Cathedral. After a certain chain of minor events, heroes come into contact with Tyrael yet again as he explains the dire situation and what must be done. Tyrael sends the heroes off on some extravagant quest to secure some otherworldly artifact to help expedite the return of their Nephalem powers, when in fact Tyrael has much more sinister plans. After venturing through Hell and back (literally), the heroes present Tyrael with the "Artifact". With it, Tyrael betrays the heroes and summons Diablo's soul back from the Black Abyss with the help of Decard Cain (actually the Lord of Lies) and Leah's body as a focusing device, which contains part of the essence of Diablo. Tyrael absorbs Diablo's soul and become an incredible force. By this time, Heaven has commenced with its invasion of Sanctuary and Tyrael/Diablo leaves the heroes to fend for themselves and makes his way for the High Heavens to destroy the Angiris Council and save humanity. As the heroes battle their way to the High Heavens, Diablo's influence proves too much for even Tyrael to control and he begins to fall to Diablo's control. The heroes battle their way through the High Heavens and finally come to the Silver City, where the now super-powered Diablo has decimated the Angiris Council with his augmented power and plans to enslave humanity. The heroes proceed to have a huge climactic battle with Diablo in the Silver City. The now reawakened powers of the Nephalem course through the heroes and they are too powerful for even a Prime Evil possessing an Archangel to stop, and so Diablo's soul is vanquished again and Tyrael dies as he apologizes for things getting out of control and wishes humanity well. With the Prime Evils, Lesser Evils, and Angiris Council gone, the Nephalem (heroes) return to Sanctuary and seal off their realm from the forces of Heaven and Hell for the rest of eternity..... Or so it seems.... ->Queue the first Expansion

Summary:
-Tyrael is the "falling star"
-You go to Hell and kill the Lesser Evils
-Decard Cain is the "Lord of Lies" Lesser Evil and you kill him after you help summon Diablo's soul

-Tyrael tries to absorb Diablo's soul to gain enough power to stop the Angiris Council and save humanity only to fall victim to Diablo's influence and must also be killed by the heroes during a climactic battle in the Silver City
-All the Lesser Evils, Prime Evils, and Archangels end up dead and humanity seals off Sanctuary from Hell and Heaven for eternity
-One or more of the other vanquished Prime Evils most like find their way back into Sanctuary during the following expansions

that sounds pretty decent.... but the problem i see with this is... "2 expansions" that come after....

if they make it Mephisto and Baal... than that would be just brain dead BAD....

if they did this story also they would write themselves into road block... for Diablo 4/5... and knowing Blizzard they dont like to do that with their series...

Also Decard Cain.. being who he is for so long... seems lil bit... farfatched that he be lord of lies... he could be... but their also rumor with Adria's being Belial.. and how in beta it said "She died" doesnt quiet seem to summon up her story...

I see Decard Cain be more likely Killed by new ressurected Diablo... which makes Leah awaken her true powers of Nephlem and Diablo in one... which makes her more powerful than any other being in the heaven/hell/sanctum... and become the guardian of Sanctum.

and Lord Of Lies... would not bring back Diablo... cause first ones he would murder would be Lord Of Lies.... he wouldnt want to help Tyreal to defend Humanity either from heaven.

Sounds like something ripped off Darksiders.

1.)Hell never actually endures a civil war, it's a ploy by the three to make heaven think they are bickering. obviously Andariel and duriel wouldn't be on the mortal realm protecting the threes Grand design if they were only concerned with fighting the angels. Plus diablo goes back to hell to rule over it and rally the troops while mephy and baal continue the plan on the mortal plane.
2.) Tyrael wouldn't be an angel after being cast down, and while he might do things a regular angel wouldn't, he wouldn't try to control diablo and enslave sanctuary because he was cast down for trying SAVE sanctuary. if their were any truces between tyrael and any of the three prime evils, Mephisto would be the one to do it because he's the 'facilitator' of the three. debatably he's the one who 'guided' king leoric to the monastery to release diablo.

3.) If this IS true. everybody is gonna be seriously raging frickin angry, because that is a cop-out of a story with absolutely 0 creative value. and that would end the franchise which would pretty much be an invitation for another company to redo it better. So no, I call shenanigans, sir.

That moment when you read "Tyrael is the falling star" and you feel so bad you just spoiled the moment when you would discover that while playing...

I regret reading the spoiler

If tyrael actually thinks its a good idea to absorb diablo's soulstone and Cain is really belail the lord of lies, I will vomit. That is a terrible story. I hope you're wrong. But it was certainly an interesting read.

To answer Inxsane's question, I remember watching Blizzcon 2011 on youtube and Metzen was asked a question similar to what you said, after D3, what bosses are left? And he basically hinted that we will fight Duriel again, and that I highly doubt we've truly killed any of bosses.

Blizzard always revives bosses, especially in the Diablo universe.

I can almost garuantee that in the next expansions and Diablo 4 & 5 we will kill all the prime evils/lesser evils at least once more. They just keep reviving them every game lol.

Cain should defiantly end up being the bad guy, he pits the hero's against the prime evils to get them out of the way, then he goes looking for the final pieces of some "prophacy" or tomes of power or something, then comes out on top. If written correctly, it would make sense, and work out really good.

Personally, I dont quite get why we have a diablo 3, for diablo was killed, and his soulstone destroyed, so he should be gone, baal's stone wasnt destroyed, so far as we know, so I could understand seeing him again, but wouldnt care to. After playing starcraft 2 though, Im really concerned about the story for this, because they took a really good story, and totally screwed it up. I feel like this is just a bid to milk their fans more, and set us up for a world of diablo setting.
