Diablo® III

The Diablo II Assassin

Just as Both the Amazon and the Assassin are spiritual successors to the Rogue (The amazon being a Projectile warrior and the Assassin more like a traditional RPG rogue) So The Demon Hunter is their D3 counterpart.

So I was hoping that at least one of the classes would import the D2 Assassin's game-play style. I like the idea behind the D2 Assassin, the closest thing in the Diabloverse to a Terran Ghost, being a Psionic super warrior. On the other hand I'd hope the D2 assassin's class successor would have the same abilities but not tied into the lore of the Mage Clans.

I've always thought the D2 Assassin was actually three classes in one, a traditional Rogue, A Psychic warrior and a "Standard" Warrior rolled into one. Her Martial Arts seems straight forward, She's a warrior, with an exotic fighting style.

Her traps make sense, they're technology that mimic magic. (And I guess that carries over to the Demon Hunter)

Lore wise, I can't wrap my head around the difference between her shadow abilities and Magic. They're both supernatural abilities that defy explanation, and can reward it's user with great power, why is her arts immune to corruption that even arcane magic isn't.
(If so why doesn't the Vizjerei fore go magic and develop psionics, Or if these are the human bodies natural skills why aren't there more assassins) Why are the Viz'Jaqtar (who are incorruptible) under the control of the Viz'jerei? (whos' had a history of being Corrupted)

The Monk also embodies something of the assassin with his martial arts.

As for the shadow disciplines of the assassin, they are mental abilities. The lore doesn't seem to go much further than that, or why they could be just as powerful. It stands to reason that since it draws on the user's own mind rather than the burning hells, that would provide protection from corruption by them.

What I did like about both the D2 Amazon and Assassin is the fact that they are the closest in the Diablo Universe to a multi-class. The Javazon and the Martial Arts Assassin could simply be Female Warriors, The Bowazon a D1 rogue, and the Shadow Assassin a self Buffing up-close and personal mage, AND a Psion. This demon Hunter seems a bit more specialised that the two, almost like a return to the D1 Rogue.
