After you've maxed your Blacksmith in Inferno mode I think it would be nice if we could customize the stats on an item.
Perhaps a customizable item could contain the following:
-Choose your own item image
if an item of equal quality has 4 random properties you may change one property at a time to a specific property at a cost of 25% effectiveness. (Instead of randoming a +25 defense you may instead choose to have +25% weapon damage (-25% effectiveness) totaling a +18.75% weapon damage instead of a random property.
I think once someone has completely maxed their options in crafting that this option will allow players to get those last pieces they need in Inferno that haven't dropped yet or randomed yet. It will also allow somewhat of a small boost for correct stats while leveling another alternate character.
By the time you finish Max Inferno Blacksmithing though you should have most lower recipes anyway, but when that alternate character gets close to level cap it will be easier to progress with correct stats that are craftable, even if less effective.
Max Inferno Blacksmithing (level 10) is just the start of a whole new game. Take a look again at how many of those good patterns are learned and how many come from world drops.
And the resources required for these awesome items! You'll be at it for a while my friend, and not to mention once you get an awesome level 10 BS set you will need an Awesome Level 10 chanter and Jeweler to make it proper! Anything that allows player customerization will hurt the replayability and the economy of the game.
