I feel that "1 random property" is misleading, I wasted 7 crafts hoping to get attack power on a chest piece til I realized the properties available were only the item prefix names such as reptilian or adventurers. I think there should be an advanced tool-tip that lists the prefixes available and the numerical values possible for them. I would at least like to know just how much bonus Exp I can get on a chest piece since it can't be attack power.
Why are so many people so bitter about Blizzard trying to make this game user friendly? Are they trying to simplify as much as possible? Yes. Will it make the game trivial and stupid and will people not play it because of that? No. If the game was complex required an excel spreadsheet to figure out which sword I should equip would it turn people off of the game? Yes. Get used to it. Video games are main stream now stop trying to fight it.
Sadly the answer for your second q is yes. I just hope they will take WoW experience into consideration (which i stopped playing coz is became too easy). Its not video games that are mainstream, dumb people are mainstream now. The thing is - Diablo will sell. It plays like D2 so for me - its a success already. I like a lot of new simplifications and i bet i'm not alone. But when i'll see monsters w/o immunities (capped at 80-smth % resist) - i'll know that someone think that their audience is dumb. And i wont be a part of it.
