Why did you guys announce this game in '08? It's '12 with no release date in sight... Fail.

As someone waiting for HL:EP3, no. The community for that game is just as obnoxious and Valve is just as secretive.

In all honesty it sounded like logical reasoning to me. I'm no game developer, but "changes to major systems" doesn't give any assurance to Feb/March.

If Blizzard wasn't so elusive with their words people wouldn't have to guess. I wish you guys acted like VALVe. Everybody knows they're working on HL:Ep3 (or HL3), but they're not dangling it in front of the Internet every chance they get. You announce your games way too damn early and can't make up your minds on when they're finished, all the while dropping little hints like "Soon" and "Your game is almost ready" (spoken by Metzen at BlizzCon).

Is it any wonder peoples outlook has devolved to this line of thinking? Many people are eagerly anticipating a moving target that left no trail.

Dear god ...

Blizzard is going to continue adjusting mechanics until the game feels perfect to them, meaning the release date is likely VERY flexible. They're not going to give you precise information when they know how drastically it could change on a whim.

At the same time they still have to talk to the media and give their impressions of how the game is coming along. If you can't handle ANY information without getting all frenzied up and wildly speculating then STOP following the game for a while.

They learned their lesson. I remember watching Rob Pardo talk with Kat Hunter at the recent Blizzcon about how they aren't going to make that same mistake with Project Titan. So we may not even see any trailers or info about that game at next years Blizzcon.

Its immpossible not ro really. We know:

Blizzard likes to polish their games to perfection
There is at LEAST one major system that (to our knowledge) isn't even ready to be shared with us

Putting those two things together = the release date has to be further than 2 months away..

Unless of course one of those two "things we know" are wrong, IE you have already polished said systems to perfection

So, you know it's going to take more than 2 months of polish to get that one major system to where Blizzard wants it? Then you must know exactly what system they're tweaking, how long they've been tweaking it and how long it will take to finish. You have so much useful information no wonder you can't help but speculate on timelines.

Do you Develop games ? Do you know how much time it takes to write Code? You have no Idea apparently would you Rather game Be Broken Like Magicka was when it released? not even Playable? Cause of bugs and what have you... Quit your Whining. He gave us so info there is nothing more to be said! Go Outside and enjoy The day do something!

Zarhym, honestly dude a lot of this tension could probably be alleviated by handing out some beta keys :D

If you don't people to speculate then don't use terms like "soon" "sometime" "early" I understand it's a catch 22. people want specifics but if you make a promise and then break it then people are unhappy. pretty much your damned if you do and damned if you don't. I think you and the blizz team is doing a good job. just realize that we are already into a delay and the information received from blizzard is next to nothing and all the community has to feast on is speculations such as decoding tweets or if we catch a glimpse of the enchanted yak on his canoe.

Zarhym, while I respect what you are trying to say - The fact is, Blizzard has been generating hype for this game for a very very long time. People have waited, and waited for this release - we have gone through delays, been testing the (very small) beta and trying to stay optimistic, but the pure lack of information on anything Diablo 3 related the past few months has been discouraging and frustrating. This is the main source of why people are getting upset. We want to know what is going on. Tell us about the systems in the game, answer our questions. Let us know what the game might be like AFTER the Skeleton King. We know nothing about this game. Many of the concepts that were fleshed out so long ago - we still know nearly nothing about.

Why can't you keep us more in the loop on the development process? The reason people are getting upset about a release date is because your not telling us anything. We like to know what direction Blizzard is taking the game in. We like to know what your working on. - When does endless pursuit of excellence stop? - Your quality standards have risen to a level that is effecting your ability to keep people interested in this game.

Your ability to say so much and confirm/deny nothing is terribly frustrating. If your not going to talk about the game and your not going to let us know when it is coming out - you might as well turn these forums off because the only thing going on lately is a lot of complaining - and NOTHING constructive.

In retrospective i hear about the first works on D3 begin in 2000 O.O

I think that Guinness record for blizz in longest making game is for sure xD

Or lets wait till the release, maybe year will be more in this proces of development--better score for that record :]

Hey Zar, since you are here, can you confirm 1 more thing really fast, i am getting tired of reading this everywhere still. can you say for sure, NO the SK situation was never the hold up for the release. don't put any code or any way to misinterpret it plz. I would like to lay this to rest finally.
Edit, something in the lines of No, the SK ordeal has never affected the release date ever.
