Never seen you guys talk about releasing a game like that.. its always been when its ready its ready. So why the big change? Some of the stuff thats been done in Beta 10 is cool, trimming the fat per se. Other changes it feels like you're trying to meet the Q1 window because of outside pressure, which is something Blizzard has been notorious for never caving into. And honestly, did companion scrolls really have that much of an impact on the release date? Seems pretty simple. |

Actually, it's not too different from where they were in Septebmer.
...we're trying to release the game and feature creep is the enemy...http://us.battle.net/d3/en/forum/topic/3196390293#3 It sounds like they want to make sure that all the core features are working soundly and in an implementation they're satisfied with. But that if there are imperfect minor features, or undeveloped ideas, they are best left on the table, at least temporarily, than tackled right now. |
|
This is common Blizzard practice. If a major system has serious issues, they're willing to take more development time (i.e. holding up a potential release) to get it right regardless of where they are in development. If a minor system or feature has serious issues that would require additional development time then they'll just scrap or revisit it post-release.

Man...
"You're taking too long!" "You're rushing!" Can't appease this crowd. |
|
I will probably get flamed for this, but I would be happy if they release it sooner and patch things in later.
|
I think a lot of us would like that personally. I know I would. I just know that that would mean terrible terrible things for their reputation, and the future of the game. It's hard to take back first impressions. |

I'm concerned that they've resorted to cutting stuff in order to ship it sooner.
No Mystic artisan. No critter companions. No reforging. And yet, we still have no clue when they want to release this game because they are still not happy with the skill system. Hopefully they don't scrap the skill system next! |

That's true, I sometimes forget logic when constantly inundated with trolls

Beta Patch 39: We scrapped the class system. After the removal of class specific items, runes, skills, and resource systems, it seemed like classes were really just an arbitrary distinction. To this end, now in character creation, we have caused your character to be a humanoid model selected automatically from a long list based on a complex algorithm based on your chosen character name and battletag. All characters now just beat things with their chosen weapon until it dies. We think this will really bring the game back to its Diablo 1 roots, when none of the characters ever did anything the least bit interesting. |

They are pulling a GEORGE LUCAS job on Diablo 3 now...
They had something really D2-like in 2008, which I was really excited about. Now, after 4 years of tweaking, editing and philosophical shifting, the game seems to be teetering on the edge of indecisiveness and odd choices. So long as they don't replace Deckard Cain with Hayden Christensen's Ghost of Young Ankin Skywalker in Act 4, it'll still be ok - I hope. |
They are pulling a GEORGE LUCAS job on Diablo 3 now...They added a Vaderno to Diablo's death scene. It's very gripping. |
I'm concerned that they've resorted to cutting stuff in order to ship it sooner. The new iteration of skill swapping is GOD AWFUL. |

Bônus:
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Ku4lJvTtGrw *Sigh*.. It brings a tear to the eyes. The game isn't even in the shelves yet, and im already nostalgic about it..what gives? :D |

Because it's about god damn time they were rushing. All the staff that is cut will be added sooner or later after release anyway. |
|
I like how blizzard has popularized the word iteration.
