I was curious as to means and features available to players who wish to form or join a guild.
What if any does diablo 3 offer that'll be usable for people looking to form guilds.
note- even if a game has absolutely nothing to offer in terms of making guilds. there's plenty of people who will form them anyway. disregarding this hurts games. period
I know theres no general chats and their just private etc. but Will it be possible to setup a chat room for a guild use or such that can keep the same name for people to always go to??
basically, can you type a chat channel name into the game somewhere and be put into that channel? or is it only create/invite to enter chats?
Your friends list is basically your guild. D3 is not an MMO; there is no persistant environment. If you have somthing to say to all your friends, broadcast it to all of them. Seriously, if dev just decided to add guilds, what would you do? Yay you'd be in a guild. It would have 0 effect on how you organize and play. Even if I stretch my imagination and envision a guild name attatched to my character and have 50 other people, I can't see how that would make things any different than having those 50 on my friends list so I could invite free people to my games.
So your one of those people who have like 800 friends and don't know 98% of the people your friended 2 on FB?
Also i don't remember insulting people over facebook was considered binding people together....
Honestly the only thing that will increase stuff on the RMAH is people playing the game and putting more things on the AH not a guild.
And still.... 4 people per game. Not quite a game changing mechanic if it can't do anything.
LOl no wonder they don't add guild support when your all this ignorant of guilds, MMO's aren't the only games with guild support lmao. Most online or competitive games have guild support whether their mmo's or not. I could start listing 4player only games that have guild support but that would take me all night. Community support is what prolongs the life of a game. most good community's hold game up looong past the company's abandonment of it. Guilds are one of the big chinks in communities, without them the game will lack.
"Honestly the only thing that will increase stuff on the RMAH is people playing the game and putting more things on the AH not a guild."
- guilds bring people together to play together, most people only play a game past their initial enjoyment of it because they have friends playing it too.
"Also i don't remember insulting people over facebook was considered binding people together...."
-obviously you've been personally butthurt by your guild before or you joined a pathetic guild full of random people you didn't know, like every guild on WoW.
and why are you even trying to compare guild support to facebook?
besides the main reason for this post that im calling guild support is to find out whether or not we're able to use channels like sc2, which could then be used as a clan lobby, etc.
And believe it or not people enjoy chatting, talking in between games in the lobby you reenter into, asking/answering questions etc. is a big portion of how long it takes before most people get bored of a game, and gives people a place to go where theres more then 3 people at a time they may be able to ask a question at. I remember lots of people on old bnet that spent more time talking in channels then playing, yes they didnt play as much, but they still played, since they talked more than they played I can guarantee you they wouldn't have played anymore if that ability to socialize wasn't there.
"Bashiok said it is a good idea and they are considering it, but it is just on their "wish list" for now and may be seen with a patch."
This sums it all up, it'd be great but they have more important things to work on and dont have the free manpower to add it in.
Shane - most 4player online comp games have guilds, that brings us however to the fact that this is going to be a console game as well. - reason for fail disclosed.
And fiezal, try playing a game other than an MMO

Clan lobbies and clan lists would be great features. They seem to be intent on only letting us play with friends, or randoms from matchmaking. I really don't think that's conducive to a good multiplayer game. A lot of us like to find a community of like-minded players to contribute to, and personally I'd rather not have to add them to my personal friends list or be limited to external social sites for planning games and such.
Clans/guilds are a feature that blizzard ultimately wants to have on the b.net level. This would allow guilds to exist that spanned all of their titles and let people chat even when playing different games.
Just because D3 only allows 4 people to play together at once doesnt mean you have to think small.
