Just to fill people in that are unaware of a blaring issue in the beta that could very well be the biggest oversight by Blizzard.
When you create a character, you get to decide a hero name right? It is an Action "RPG" after all... However, upon joining a game with other players, both your name on your profile to the left and the name that pops up on the chat window are your Battletag names. ANY interaction in-game is done with your battletag....Imagine if a game like WoW did this. Your hero name only appears during dialogs with npcs and emotes. After each and every beta patch that comes, I see no indication that they plan to bring back our character names.... What is the point of making an awesome name for an awesome hero if no one can see it, not even yourself?! Here is the thread in the Beta Feedback unanimously stating how IMPORTANT hero names are to the game. http://us.battle.net/d3/en/forum/topic/4175547887?page=1 Let's make sure Blizzard understands this. In the meantime, why not post your hero names below, because if the way things continue like they are, it'll be the only time we can share them with each other. R.I.P. Anvari, Demon Hunter |

We MUST be heard?
What does this have to do with battle tags? *Edit* Isn't there an option for battle tags to show or not (clarification).

Names, no names... I really don't care.
Generally all I ever do when I name characters is hit random over and over until I see something I like that isn't taken. |

Names, no names... I really don't care. It means ALOT to alot of people who play RPGs or Action RPGs...with Battletags, things are moving more towards social networking. |

That is definitely a generalization. I play a lot of RPG's, hell I even play pen and paper games... I have a 3.5e D&D game I play in every Sunday. That doesn't mean I care about character names. Just because you care a lot doesn't mean that everyone who shares your interests does. |

Maybe that's because the people who don't care don't really care either way whether or not there are names in the game, so they really saw no real reason to post? Obviously the people who will be posting in a thread about how they want character names in the game are going to be people who want them in the game. That's just common sense. Don't get me wrong, I am not arguing against them putting them in, I really just don't care either way. |

We had a long couple of threads in the Beta forums about this. A blue did not even give information about it. When asked on twitter it was ignored. Based on what you are saying, i doubt you have played the beta. If you have you would notice the Battletag System is flawed. Anyone who uses a first name for a battletag has a chance to find another person with the same battletag. How many Jeffs or Roberts or Jons will you find. Its a common name. Battletag system shows just that. With both of you in a game, its hard to tell who is who, even when talking. |

And for the people who randomly choose a battletag name like JOHN, all their female characters will show up as JOHN.

This doesn't really effect me, as I have a group of friends I will be playing with regardless. Also I don't really see how the fact that I have not played the beta invalidates my opinion of not giving a !@#$ about having character names. |

Because he is telling you why you should care. If you don't care, good for you, but in the game as is, it is flawed. Sorry forgot, when you have not actually used the system its easy to give your opinion, and have others take you serious. My bad. |

Maybe I am generalizing by saying a lot care about names, but we'll never know unless we could have a poll. |

I just explained to you why it doesn't matter whether I have played the beta. I have a group of friends I will be playing the game with. The fact that it is "difficult" to figure out who is who in a group because of battletags literally will not effect me in the slightest. Not to mention the fact that I don't really consider Diablo to be a role-playing experience as it is. |

<span class="truncated" /> Its going to be difficult. As you have seen in your thread and the others that have been made including one of my own, the blues do not care. Its not a major problem, just an annoyance.
Ah yeah because you've played the game with your friends and have experience the numerous ways battletag effects the game. Also what does Diablo being a role-playing experience have to do with anything?

I don't really understand how only being able to see someones battletag will somehow make playing with my friends, who all have different battle tags and I will be talking to on vent/skype more difficult. I may have never played the game, but unless they have found some way to make battletags super complicated (which they aren't) then there is pretty much no way that this will effect me. But clearly as someone who has played the beta, you can explain to me exactly how this will somehow make my experience playing Diablo 3 with my close knit group of friends more difficult. |
