So, SK guarantees at least one rare on first play-through;
Does the lvl of the rare drop relate to the level of my char when killing SK?
(for example higher char lvl gives higher item level, or better stats?)
My strategy for farming rares is currently to use a new character and rush through to SK. At his point my char is lvl7-8. Would it be smarter to lvl the char up to 13 before killing SK?
Ok, thanks for good feedback.
Anyone else tried killing SK for the first time at lvl 13? Would be good to have some more data on this.
I've been grinding SK with low lvl chars (mostly lvl 2-3) all day. What I see is that the rares that drop are low lvl rares, often without lvl requirements at all. I've never gotten a rare that have higher reqs than my chars current lvl.
It seems that when the char is lvl 5 or above the highest req I get is lvl 5. I haven't tried with chars above 7 today.
We would need to see that the actual occurrence of higher level items dropping for higher level characters is significantly greater than we would expect from random chance. If you didn't keep track, but are just describing what you remember, that is not reliable data.
It is also likely that any given mob can drop items that are within a certain range of its own level, e.g., a level 9 might drop items of levels 6 to 12 (my numbers, for sake of example), and it still might not have anything to do with character level.

No one is saying that the drop is based solely on your clvl. My guess would be that the drops take into account mlvl and clvl when generating loot drops (similar to crafting in D2 which used clvl and ilvl)
This has happened to me once, actually that was yesterday. I was playing solo in a non-public game. Dunno if it's related to solo play or if they've changed something the last days..
