Simple Hand Crossbow

I don't quite understand how the damage on these could be how they are.

Take a look.

Now if you'll look at http://us.battle.net/d3/en/item/simple-hand-crossbow you can see that the damage on this item doesn't differ, that was my first thought. It's a solid 3-13

So how does +2-4 Poison Damage cause more dps than +2-4 Damage and 4% increased attack speed? Do elements do more than physical? I don't get it.

looks like the magic crossbow only added +2 to it's max damage instead of +4 like the poison version.

can't say

I can't find a simple hand cross bow that has 11 max damage... they all had 13 on the vendor
either the base on that item is broken (11 max), or the mod.

I'm fairly certain the actual damage spreads of weapons are random. Just because you find two weapons of the same type doesn't mean they are going to have the exact same damage.

So basically what it looks like is one bow was 3-13 and the other was 3-11.

That would account for the differences you see, not that the weapon isn't getting the damage boost, it's just the base stats were worse.

the other was 3-11.

except I can't reproduce that.

as the websites listing on the item states (3-13) not random
visiting the xbow vendor hasn't yielded a simple hand cross bow that didn't have a 3- 13 base
... so it is weird

I missed the part about the official list showing a static damage distribution. That being the case, I'm not sure. Either the page information is out of date or it's a bug. In either case, perhaps this should instead be put in the bug report forum?

bug report forum?

if we can reproduce it, certainly.
otherwise, we don't quite have enough info to go on <shrug>, even if I check 1000 simple hand cross bows.. doesn't mean it can't spawn on a lowish level mob

and unless we can see the mod happen again on another item type.. we just can't figure out where the problem was to track what happened to prove it is a reoccurring bug

Apparently my SC account can't post cause it's banned? ok..

Anyways, luckily with the AH we can reproduce this mod.

Check these out.
http://i250.photobucket.com/albums/gg250/MuyoMan/crossbowdamage1.jpg
http://i250.photobucket.com/albums/gg250/MuyoMan/crossbowdamage2.jpg
http://i250.photobucket.com/albums/gg250/MuyoMan/crossbowdamage3.jpg

Compare to: http://us.battle.net/d3/en/item/simple-hand-crossbow
+2-4, +2-3, +1-2.. it all adds up to the same numbers.. On a static damage item.

Now here's the interesting part.. look at these two swords..
http://i250.photobucket.com/albums/gg250/MuyoMan/crossbowdamage4.jpg

Now Compare to: http://us.battle.net/d3/en/item/twohanded-sword

Now this sword doesn't have static damage like the crossbow, it can change based on luck of the drop... but the interesting thing here is if you subtract that 2-4 damage (not the holy one) you get 11 max damage, which is lower than the possible max damage of the white sword.
Something is up here and I want to know what.. lol

we have seen wounding mods bug out.. certain rings from patch 12, right before the stat change had been contributing inaccurate damage to final DPS

we could be seeing a problem with the wounding mod again

So does that mean that the items are doing the correct amount of damage, it's just not displaying the stats properly? or is it not adding the damage correctly?

if you could somehow separate the +dmg on the weapon with only a bunch of dex + punching you might be able to deduce that... thus with the rings it would be possible

if we could find a http://us.battle.net/d3/en/item/axe-1h/ but with 3-3 damage (doubt that is possible..)
and a 2-4 mod that showed a total of 5-5, then we could deduce things

however, currently we don't know, the variables aren't able to be locked down enough
