Diablo® III

There is no SEA server (or ANZ Server).

Stop pointing to SC2 and comparing the NA server to the SEA server. There are several reasons this comparison is unfair:

...

So yeah, please stop comparing this to SC2.

Your rant here wasn't particularly useful. Sure references were made to how SC2 plays, but in general we aren't comparing the games to one anothe, simply the servers that blizzard set up for SC2, and how they will/wont be used (by blizzard/the community) for d3.

@ArtVandelay
Where do you get your information on where these new servers will be and where they won't be?

Sometimes explicit, sometimes between the lines, and mostly from keeping tabs on what blues say and putting 2 and 2 together.

What we know from blues/site updates - Countries from the SC2-SEA server have been defaulted to NA:

http://us.battle.net/d3/en/forum/topic/4175551303 / http://us.battle.net/d3/en/services/auction-house/regions

From this + the facts that they've set this subforum up, and that there is no sea.battle.net/d3/en, we can infer that there is no SEA-server to join.

RMAH wise - Australia can use its currency, in the NA auction house, as said here (Not explicitly, but its an easy inference to make, note the words currency CONVERSION):

Anyway I thought this is a pretty cool and relevant map showing the bandwidth of the submarine cables

http://www.cablemap.info/

http://edgedirector.com/map/bmap.png

Looking at it , the bulk of direct data would be through 2 cables

Southern cross and Pacific Fibre

Cut those and things would grind to a halt as the other channels would be severely congested

The sheer physical distance would mean 1/2 a second delay ( speed of light / distance ) not inclusive of modulating/demodulating or whatever.

Maybe they should just host the servers @ hawaii to be fair to everyone :D

Southern Cross is absolutely correct.

Pacific Fibre, as I understand (and am not a pro at any of this) isn't available to retail customers.

For Telstra users, and users that rent Telstra lines (everyone but Optus if I understand correctly) they have access to the SEA-ME-WE out of Perth. A quick Wikipedia of this shows Telstra as an investor in this and IIRC Telstra and Optus appear as investors in the Southern Cross line.

This makes a big deal if you are trying to connect to a server in Asia ex-Australia and are using Optus, as you are going via San Diego to Asia, as opposed through Perth to Singapore (roughly speaking).

Feel free to correct me if I am wrong on any of the above.

From http://www.wowwiki.com/US_realm_list_by_datacenter

Assuming the information is true , the likely server we ( SEA/NZ) would connect to is Los Angeles, California

A Speed test from Singapore ( Starhub ISP ) shows a ping that is in the 400 ms range

I am concerned as I would love to play Hardcore mode but the ping seems detrimental to the health of a Hardcore Barbarian.

I think you got confused, I wasn't talking about the question of 'will we get an SEA server' - we already have answers to that. I was talking about the people who say we don't have enough D3 players in Australia and they were basing that opinion on the player numbers from SC2. That's like saying Modern Warfare 4 won't have many players because Mortal Kombat didn't have many players. The playerbases aren't the same, you can't project the potential D3 playerbase by looking at the SC2 playerbase.
