Whatever happened to casting on dogs?

So as the title says whatever happened to casting your spell on dogs to make them catch on fire or be all plague-like?

Idea was thrown out a loooong time ago. It kinda was a cool concept though.

It became too difficult when they included rune effects. They would have to have a unique model for every skill cast on every dog, so that's 6 dog rune effects (basic unruned + the 5 runes) times however many different casting skills and their 6 rune effects: 6x(however many skills there are x6)=big number of animations. It was a cool concept, and I'll kind of miss the fun of it, but rune effects cover the idea in a more general but less exciting way.

edit: Just tidying bits up so it makes more sense.

They probably realized that it would lead to a lot more down time while playing the WD compared to other classes.
