It became too difficult when they included rune effects. They would have to have a unique model for every skill cast on every dog, so that's 6 dog rune effects (basic unruned + the 5 runes) times however many different casting skills and their 6 rune effects: 6x(however many skills there are x6)=big number of animations. It was a cool concept, and I'll kind of miss the fun of it, but rune effects cover the idea in a more general but less exciting way.
