Diablo® III

If you are unable to play Diablo III due to an "Unsupported graphics card error", I do have a work-around. But before you do anything, please understand that your GPU is unsupported for a reason. Usually this is because of the absolutely mediocre performance it will get even at lowest settings. Chances are your performance will be so bad that the game will simply not be playable. That being said, there is really no harm in trying out this work-around. Just understand that this is not a *fix* but rather a *work-around* and your performance will likely be awful no matter what. There is nothing Blizzard can do to *fix* this because there is simply nothing for them to *fix*.

Inside the folder libraries/documents/diablo III there is a file named "d3prefs.txt". Open it. (There are other places it could be. For example, C:\Users\*YOUR USERNAME*\Documents\Diablo III ... just use Windows search to find d3prefs.txt )

Change:
- DisableTrilinearFiltering "1" (from 0 to 1)
- HardwareClass "1" (from 0 to 1)

Save the file and close it.
When you launch the game, you will still get the same “Unsupported graphics card” error that pops up. Press esc and the game will load.

Absolutely. This is why they are unsupported to begin with and why this error exists at all.

I always recommend getting a new video card if that is at all possible for an enjoyable experience while playing the game how it should be played. If not, I refer them to this work-around.

Unsupported video cards that have a shot at being decently playable (>15fps), given the rest of your computer is decent and you use a small resolution:

If you're having the 'unsupported card' popup issue and your graphics card SHOULD be supported in the first place (many of the ATI Radeon cards are having this issue), just hit ESC and it will let you past that screen into the login section

I have no plans on shelling out $150 for an upgrade my computer doesn't need (it meets all the other system requirements) and will try using this workaround.

ELKU: That is a different issue, just hit ESC when you get that popup and it will let you past that screen into the login section.

They are working on it, they had a sticky open for a bit to gather some dxdiag info on people having that issue.

Aurabolt, you're using Intel's 4 series which definitely isn't supported. You can still try my work-around to see what the game plays like.

pft, i get the graphics message and the game is more than playable. laggy at higher vid settings but to say the game will be unplayable with a less than desireable vcard is rather silly

and yes ive played the open beta, and ive raided DS 25 with 0 lag even on ultraxion/gunship/madness ETCCCCCCCCCCCCCCC

I can't buy a new graphics card, I don't have the money for it. Anything else I can play with in the D3prefs.txt to fix this? I am currently beyond the point of frustration. This is the error I get: "Click to retry creating D3D device. Click OK to retry"

The game will not work period if your Shader version is older than 3.0.
