very confusing.. If I have an NA account and download the game in a different language will it still be ok? is the "correct regin" based on ip? or does this just mean that if I choose a different regin than NA I just won't be able to connect on the NA server? So many questions but no answers... :( |

Just to clarify, since I live in oceanic does this mean I cannot play on NA servers until a certain time period? Also, when you say go to the account tab are you referring to in the game once we install it or here on b.net?

That is correct, they won't allow "Global Play" until servers are stabilized. You may only play on your region's servers until then. As for your account tab question: Since he didn't specify, I assume he was talking about when you're actually in the game and attempting to log-in. There should be a drop-down menu or tab for you to choose the region you wish to connect with. In your case, you'll want to choose Oceanic or you won't be able to connect.

To make it even easier to understand than that... At 12am on the west coast of the U.S., ALL servers go live. Play on the server that covers the region you are located in so you can (hopefully) immediately log-in. |

For the Americas region, comprising the U.S., Canada, Latin America, Australia, New Zealand, and South East Asia, the game servers will go live at 12:01 a.m. PDT on May 15.
Once the game unlocks at 12:01 a.m. PDT on May 15 and after you install, launch the game, and before logging in ensure you have The Americas region selected. If someone has a Korean or Taiwan Battle.net account they'll need to select the Asia region, if someone has an EU Battle.net account, they'll need to select Europe.

Question bash, why not, instead of hiding it in the options where, people that DON'T come to these forums probably won't know it's there, have it be a popup like the name creation in SC2 asking where we are and have the selection there?

I have a question there: I'm living and playing in Europe, but as I want to enjoy the game in English, I downloaded the US-client. Will that affect region settings in any way or are those purely for localization and such?
(Btw Bashiok, thank you for doing an awesome job. I can't believe how much aggression and negativity rampages in the official forums. You are the fire that burns against the cold!) |
I have a question there: I'm living and playing in Europe, but as I want to enjoy the game in English, I downloaded the US-client. Will that affect region settings in any way or are those purely for localization and such? Sounds like it's tied to your battle.net account region, not the client itself. |

exactly, we still don't know if this is to discourage people who region hop, or simply to protect one server from being overloaded by slowing all traffic... |

Can you install US client with EU account and change region from the options menu ? I happen to have downloaded US installer already. Trying to save your servers some bandwidth on launch day, that's all :)

d download the game in a different language will it still be ok? is the "correct regin" based on ip? or does this just mean that if I choose a different regin than NA I just won't be able to connect on the NA server? So many questions but no answers... :( Hiya Bash _ I'm an America living in Korea now. My account is NA but I really don't see myself playing on awkward time schedules. So wouldn't be OK to change my region to Korea and when i return to the States I could change it back to US and still use RMAH? |
You can but remember that items and characters do not transfer between realms. It's also not clear that users will be able to access RMAH outside their regions determined by their geo-ip. But given the way global play works it must be via geo ip. Therefore while you can play on US servers you cannot access the RMAH in NA until you go back to the USA. Also note that Asia will not have any RMAH for now.

Oceanana and South east Asia are launching at the same time as the Americas anyway. Refer to the launch schedules to ensure you know when your launch is. |
Jinxso WRONG. Asia is opening 15 ACTUAL hours before Americas, Europe 9 ACTUAL hours before america, aka, if you are in europe, you can play diablo 3 9 hours before any american will, blizz is doing this so that the game does not launch at funky times in different places, therefore, it wont be noon in Hong Kong when the game launches (that would have been if they set the global launch time at the america time) and everyone around the world gets to enjoy midnightish launch parties. |
