I am going with Witch Doctor because of his dialogue responses in quests. He comes off as humble and compassionate, whereas the Barbarian and DH just seem kind of generically stoic badasses, the Monk is generically stoically spiritual, and I want to punch the Wizard in his stupid face every time he opens his mouth.

Witch Doctor for many reasons:
1. Awesome Short Story (Demon Hunter and Barbarian also appealed to me this way)
2. Very unique gameplay
3. Diverse builds/playstyles
4. Spiders and Toads and Zombie Bears OH MY!
5. He's got a 24/7 groove going with his "jungle beat" twitching.
6. Voodoo masks.
7. Good community of posters on the WD forums (Generally speaking of course)
8. Gargantuan smash!
He comes off as humble and compassionate

You know, I almost exclusively visit the WD forum here on Battle.net because of this. Went to General Discussion and the Barb forum for comparison (and extra tidbits), but the quality of posts was greatly inferior. Discussion was actually non-existent in many threads.
As far as not "wasting time" -- Good luck -- Unless you played beta, your only option is to try it out. You may think it looks cool, and that it is what you want, however, it may not be.
As I recall there were lots of necromancers for the first 30 days in D2 -- after that you rarely ever saw one (Same with assassins and druids really). Everyone played wiz, barb, or pally. The main thing should be to have fun and kill demons imo.
I remember this. Fishymancers were GODLY before they nerfed CE. I always had a Necro build, I loved how radically different they were to any other play build, up to and including the Sorc--yeah she was a caster too, but didn't have anything between her and monsters like the Nec did. Since the WD is the spiritual successor to the Nec, I'm going WD.
Not only was I able to achieve a VERY respectable 65 DPS at lvl 13, nearly on par with the Barb, but the WD was just funner to play with. A close second is the Monk, but he's the exact opposite of the WD, way more clicks per minute to play with him.
Threats of violence. We take these seriously and will alert the proper authorities.
