Deleting the file from the update folder then downloading the new one from the link provided earlier and placing it back into the folder then giving your machine a restart worked fine for me!

Since I'm terrible with technology, I have no idea where the update folder is.....
I tried downloading "http://blizzard.vo.llnwd.net/o16/content/d3-pod-retail/NA/8370.direct/Updates/d3-0-9558-Win-final.MPQ" but then my problem was that I couldn't open it... it told me I couldn't open .mpq files. ):

Have done all the above. Deleted the file and re-run launcher as admin. Downloaded from Barthus' link and re-run launcher as admin. But it still doesn't work please help?!?

No need to uninstall or download the setup from battle.net if you get this error. Just delete file and run the launcher again.

If you get the same error, download the file from:
http://blizzard.vo.llnwd.net/o16/content/d3-pod-retail/NA/8370.direct/Updates/d3-0-9558-Win-final.MPQ
And save in your "Diablo III\Updates" folder before starting the launcher again.

Thanx , worked for me

where is d3 updates folder

Found it. right click on the d3 desktop shortcut, select properties, select open file location, then open updates folder, delete the mpq file. Then restart the launcher, and it will automatically download the correct file and your good to go. takes 30 seconds at most.

Confirmed here. Deleted the file, ran the launcher, fixed! Thanks for the support, if not for the fans this launch would have been so much more disappointing, once again players are more support than the actual support team.

Thanks for the help, this worked for me, deleted the MPQ file then reopened the launcher and it fixed itself. I would say double check the name of the file though cause this thread is saying it was 9558 that was corrupted whereas mine was 9858 =)
