  • Save to your desktop (its will be a dixdiag.txt)

Putting the Diablo III Setup.exe into compatibility mode for Vista service pack 3 fixed the "newer operating system" error for me

I've got a fix for you guys having this issue. It MAY work for you, I know it worked for me. I was having the same issue. I am wondering if this is a Windows 7 64 bit issue.

When you open the installer, it brings you to a screen that has you scroll past information text before continuing. If you notice, at the top shows where the game will be installed. It probably says C://Program Files (x86)/DiabloIII. Change this to C://Program Files (DiabloIII will be placed behind Program Files automatically) instead.

The game should install now. Hope this helps you guys.

all it keeps saying is i need a newer OS, i just upgraded to service pack 2, that did not help. i dont have any vista options for compatibility, and have tried all my options, non for that work. Please help, really getting bothered by this.

Edit: OK it seems to be installing now finally, after trying several times with no compatability modes, it just started to work, it looks like anyways.

Finally got it to install, using vista with sp2 and tried it like this :

-set the agent.exe to compatibility mode and run as administrator, and run launcher.
-once its past the "updating files" and the launcher loads DO NOT CLICK INSTALL
-ctrl-alt-del and cancel agent.exe in the task manager
-change agent back out of compatibility mode
-doubleclick agent.exe manually from the battle.net folder
    -click install
