Diablo® III

Low FPS on Mac still a problem

As the title states, I'm receiving about ~25 fps on medium shadows and ~18 on high shadows for some reason.

I have an early 2011 17" MacBook Pro and it should be able to run the game flawlessly.

Mine is also still far from stellar. Have to run it on the lowest 2 resolution settings.

I too am experiencing choppy game-play. I have a:

MacBook (13-inch, Aluminum, Late 2008) - Technical Specifications: 2.0GHz Intel Core 2 Duo processor with 3MB on-chip shared L2 cache running 1:1 with processor speed - NVIDIA GeForce 9400M graphics processor with 256MB of DDR3 SDRAM shared with main memory

I have my resolution at 1280x800 but have had to turn down every setting to low to make the game 'playable.' Even with this the game is still noticeably choppy. I bought the game because my computer meets what was said to be specification requirements. However the inability to render the game smoothly seriously detracts from its playability and my enjoyment of it. I am not in a position to upgrade my computer right now but can upgrade my RAM if that will do anything. My graphics card driver is up to date and therefore there is little I can do on my own.

Please release an update for Macs that enhances playability!

nVidia 9400 GPU

Very slow FPS in Diablo III even at lowest quality, noticeable jerky.

I run Guildwars via Wine, and WoW on the same machine with good frame rate on both.

I have the same problem as the OP, with the same computer. I did NOT have these problems with the beta client.

Blizzard, please tell your Mac-using customers when you will fix this!

Diablo 3 lags so terribly on Macs it is unplayable.

It's a shame since I thought I was above the requirements enough to really enjoy the game--but it's very choppy.

My question is: would a patch even fix FPS like this, or are we just screwed out of getting to really enjoy a wonderful game? :)

It is more than fine, THE GAME NEEDS A PATCH

I run on my 2010 macbook pro in boot camp, maxed res, everything on high, AA on, but shadows off, and constant 40-50 fps.

So all your specs are fine it's blizzard that needs to fix the mac support for osx.

Yep, same here. Macbook Pro late 2011. With lowest settings and native res, I cannot get over 20 FPS. It's always between 8-20 fps and seems to hover around 13-18 fps the most. :(

One thing to double check: to you have gfxcardstatus installed?

I noticed originally horrible frame rates on my 2010 15-inch MBP only to discover I'd left it set to only use the Intel chip for power and heat reasons.

Once I switched it over to dynamic or discrete only, everything ran smoother. Don't know my fps, but it was definitely smooth to me.

Another possibility is that your kext (kernel extensions/drivers) for your GPU could be corrupted or out of date. Simply installing the Combo update from Apple's support page (10.6.8 Combo or 10.7.4 Combo) will place a fresh copy of the drivers and relink them in the OS. Seen that fix a number of GFX related issues on Mac for various programs.

(Also btw, I'm a Apple Certified Macintosh Tech who works with this sort of stuff daily)

Okay guys, I am a Mac user also, but we need to know that Macs have been built in a way which support work more than play. It's a widely know fact in the world of technology that PCs have a better gaming experience as Macs have a better work experience. Other companies such as ArenaNet do not even bother with giving access to the Mac platform.

The only true fix to most of your issues is to buy a gaming PC. The game runs smoothly enough for me on my Mac, but I do not plan on playing at a competitive rate. I recommend either buying a secondary computer to run games on that is a PC, or trying to upgrade all of your Mac's hardware to the best available (which might cost more than just being a PC).

I too am having issues with FPS on my latest generation Mac mini (5,1 with 8GB of RAM, otherwise standard config running 10.7.4 now) I have to turn my setting ALL the way down, and make the game run in 1280x800 (looks like crap on my 1920x1200 screen) just to make the game LESS choppy. It is still choppy.
