Diablo® III

BattleTag™ Free Name Change Update

(Locked)

During the Diablo III Open Beta Weekend in April, a number of players opted to use their one free BattleTag nickname change in order to try to participate in the beta test. We recognize that in their excitement to try to get into the game, some players did not fully realize how BattleTags would integrate with Diablo III or that the number of free changes was limited, and they ended up choosing nicknames that they weren't happy with.

To help address these concerns, we've done a one-time refresh of the free BattleTag name change feature on all Battle.net accounts, so that everyone once again has one free BattleTag name change to use at their discretion.

This means that if you already used your original free change, you will now have another opportunity to change your BattleTag nickname. If you did not use your free BattleTag name change or have not yet created a BattleTag, you will still only be able to change your BattleTag once for free.

To set or change your BattleTag nickname, log in to Battle.net Account Management, head to the Account > Summary page, and look for the Create or Change option under Account Details. As a reminder, BattleTags aren't unique, so you can pick any name you like as long as it adheres to the BattleTag Naming Policy. For more information, see the BattleTag FAQ and Battle.net website page.

Remember, your BattleTag serves as your public identity when playing Diablo III, meaning you'll be identified in groups and in chat by your BattleTag -- choose your BattleTag wisely!

Damn, it should be stackable, because I was saving my change as it is (dont remember when I registered my battletag, but it wasn't in haste). I assume though the single change we do get will last forever and never expire?

Hey Lyllira,

I tried changing my tag to Turbo, but it said it wasn't within the naming policay guidelines. It seems like it is. Can you tell me why it doesn't allow that word?
Thank you :D I need to think up something clever this time. Plus, it's another chance at the coveted #1337

choose your BattleTag wisely!

Will need to put about 4 dialog boxes reminding people that you cannot change it ever again ........ EVER!
About BattleTags and Hero Names I think the solution is simple and I will leave my humble opinion: just put it as an option for players to choose to show other people BattleTag, Hero Name or both.
nice this is exactly what i did haha
What you stated about the Beta and name change was exactly what I did, so thank you so much for making up for my ignorance.

Great job !

Thanks Blizzard. This is a real classy move!
THANKS
ETA on fixing the failure that is battletag ? Allowing our character names to show up in co-op games, rather than just our battletag....

Can't fix something that's working as intended.
this is very nice of blizzard

oh so i can change it? cool cause i think mine had some numbers attached to it that meant **** all to me. thank you blizz!

It's always going to have meaningless (to most) numbers attached to it. They don't display in game though, unless you happen to have the same BattleTag as someone else in your game.
Well I did want to change my battletag from Soggyworm to SoggyWorm, but it comes up with "can not be the same name" even though it is not EXACTLY the same.

Yea its not big deal, but it reads better if I can have the w as upper case.

EDIT: So yea is there no way I can change Soggyworm to SoggyWorm?

When you click my name here on the forums, you see Acyd#1236, and under it Caustyk.

Everyone else's match, why doesn't mine? What does that signify? Anyone know?

P.S. Will I ever be able to use my Collectors Edition SC2 Avatars here on the Diablo III forums?
