Diablo® III

Intelligence vs Damage

Hey guys, I'm currently playing as a Witch Doctor, and I have a question.

For a while, I have been wearing this:
Keen Amulet of Wounding
+2-4 Damage
Attack Speed Increased by 5%

Then, just now, I looted this:
Mending Amulet of Focus
+29 Intelligence
Health Globes Grant +53 Life

I decided to equip both and check the changes. If I equip the Mending Amulet of Focus, my damage drops from 137.88 to 125.86.
Alternatively, if I equip the Mending Amulet of Focus, my Damage Increased by goes from 244.00% to 273.00%. And vice versa if I equip back the Keen Amulet of Wounding.

Does anyone know which one is better, and which one I should focus on, and please tell me why?

Thanks.

For all that it's worth, I'm level 21.

1 dmg = +1 dmg
1 int = +1% dmg

using round numbers if your dmg is 200 and u increase it by 1dmg ull have 201, but if you increase it by 1int ull have 202

I've gone over to the AH and saw that weapons do have elemental dmg such as fire, poison, cold, etc. Do these elemental dmg attributes count for the same as the +dmg attribute?

Ex. (if ever you didn't get me clearly)

Weapon #1
XXX.X DPS
XX - XX dmg

+XX - XX dmg

Weapon #2
XXX.X DPS
XX - XX dmg

+XX -XX cold/poison/fire dmg

Do the elemental dmg weapons have an edge over the base dmg + dmg weapons?

This is not true. If you have 200 damage and you increase it by 1, your damage increases to 201*int/100. Essentially, as your int gets higher the benefit from increased base damage magnifies compared to the increase to base int.

Some numbers:
basedmg INT Total Damage
150 1000 1500
155 1000 1550
160 1000 1600
165 1000 1650
150 1000 1500
150 1005 1507.5
150 1010 1515
150 1015 1522.5

So 15 damage will increase your total to damage by 150, whereas 15 int will increase it by 22.5. With 1000 int total, it would take 100 int to give you the equivalent in damage increase as 15 damage. This number increases as your INT increases, so in general +dmg is way more important later on.
