Diablo® III

Bad performance on new ASUS G55VW

Hello guys.I just bought the new ASUS G55 VW Laptop with Intel 3610QM 16Gb ram and GTX 660M and I can say the diablo 3 runs very bad I am not joking.
For comparecement I can say I have a Desktop PC with Intel 2600K and GTX 560TI and the game runs on FULL HD with EVERYTHING enabled on HIGH with AA without any issues.

For comparing the ASUS G55 VW I even get a BIG STRANGE lag spikes if I play on LOW without AA and with less particles. This is very very strange if you ask me (Skyrim runs perfectly with all on ULTRA and FXAA). I found it happens when I am going to a not discovered areas also the smoke looks to drop the FPS a lot.

Can you give an advice what the problem may be ? I am using the latest nvidia drivers from 2012/03/29 And basically on a PLAIN Windows 7 I just installed all drivers from http://rog.asus.com/notebook/15-inch/g55vw/

to me it sounds the Turbo boost is not working correctly I dont know the thing is that even everything on LOW or HIGH doesnt make any difference (AA makes) I still get a lag spikes ( with AA I have lower FPS of course and lag spikes)

Get a sysinfo tool and check the temperatures of your CPU and GPU while running the game, sounds like overheating (a common issue with laptops) although if its brand new, it could be that your graphics card is set to power saving mode, make sure your card is set to full performance.

ONEFR33M4N hahaha yeah :)I travel a lot so I need an extra laptop as well :) cannot bring my PC on plains all the time right :)

ReddFox hmmm will see the strange thing is that SKYRIM runs perfect.. basically Skyrim runs like on my desktop 1:1 so I doubt it is because of temperature of CPU or GPU. Also the fans are not making any noise at all and the laptop is cold as it is stopped. Abotu the card set to power saving can you tell me where this is configured ? but as I said it is strange SKYRIM runs ok.

That doesn't sound right. I have an old Asus G51 with half those specs and run the game on max settings/full AA, AND I use an external 1920x1080 monitor.

Vayne I know it sounds very very strange and I have no idea why ... I have the old ASUS G60Vx maybe I can try on it the fact is the game runs very bad on this 55 VW I dont know why I cannot find any drivers for GTX 660M in the nvidia site maybe there is an update but I cant find it.

And I am choosing HIGH performance in the ASus utility thing also I put the video to high performance everywhere no difference I get a LAG spikes and on SMOKE the FPS goes like half way down. Especially in new tristan or outside tristan.

Sounds like a problem with the graphics card in your laptop. You shouldn't be having any problems running D3, so I would do some scouting around and see if anyone else with a GTX 660M is having issues. There are MANY things that could be wrong... need to update the GeForce drivers, incompatible driver, etc. The issue where you're only experiencing lagging when there is a lot of smoke/particles leads me to that conclusion.

That's just my opinion - take it or leave it :)

I am having the same problem with my nvidia card in my laptop. It appears that the newest graphics drivers are a little off for this game. I turn everything all the way down and fps doesn't move. I know it isn't the system, because I can max star wars and bf3.

yes this is what I am saying Skyrmi runs amaznig ( dont have anything else )

!@#$ and I guess there are no older drivers for GTX 660M ...

P.S. I have Asus G60Vx with GTX260M and I found out all drivers after 285 (released in MAY not the one in november for skyrim but the one from MAY 2011 ) are the BEST even skyrim runs better with the old one then with the one specificly for it. but this is another story.

I'm sure nvidia will wake up to this. They came out with big upgrades on Skyrim and Bf3 really soon after launch, and I doubt that this game will be far behind.

CaptainLeif This is what I was saying the NVIDIA update for drivers specificlly for SKYRIM basically makes the game work a lot worst then without the update :) And games like AION become totally unplayable :) I think they are F*cking the drivers of old video cards to force you to buy new one...

I had heard of a lot of people having problems with the drivers, which is weird they did nothing but help me. I'm sorry if it screwed you over. I just hope that I'm able to play this game better when my parts come in the mail.

I play on a Asus G55 (12gb ram, gtx-660m, 128ssd ...) everything on max but shadow quality (med setting). Plays great! I would check your drivers or something.

Differential what drivers do you use ?I have installed everything listed on the ASUS G55VW site and the drivers are from march 2012 and I cant find any newer

Running stock 296.10 WHQL (the one it came with). The 301.24 BETA doesn't seem to install properly.

Apart from LCD calibration and setting power options to performance I don't remember tweaking the machine in any way.

Overall great machine, super silent while playing.

I will try to put together a profile tonight with FXAA and whatnot (http://www.geforce.com/whats-new/articles/enhance-diablo-iii-with-advanced-ambient-occlusion-shadowing/)

Have not stared playing yet. Waiting for things to settle a bit. However, I use a Asus G74SX and can max all current games with no problem.

The Asus G-Series are awesome!

Problem #1
You went Asus, since they were bought out they have dropped severely in the customer service and satisfaction ratings. Last few years when I buy ASUS something goes wrong.

Problem #2
Nvidia

:P

Just my opinions.

@JOKe

You could try the new 301.40 BETA driver.
