What? I found Normal incredibly easy. The only time I died was against Belial because of bull!@#$ (during the phase where he blows up the floor I thought I could go up the stairs on either side only to find I couldn't and thus couldn't move).
I used a grand total of maybe 5-6 pots the ENTIRE playthrough.
I think your skills are off, personally. Diamond Skin is great, so that's fine, but I'd personally sub out Hydra for Wave of Force (useful in a pinch), Archon for Mirror Image and Disintegrate for Arcane Orb - I know, I was sucked into Archon too since it looks so awesome and the damage is unreal, but without significant +movement speed you're going to have troubles even if you give it Teleport because it simply lacks defensive capabilities.
As a Wizard you're squishy, which means you need to be mobile and have as many active defences as possible to get you out of sticky situations - almost all of your skills either require you to be standing still or simply don't add anything other than damage. IMO, damage is the least of your concerns as a Wizard.
I've found the game so far into NM to be too easy as a Wizard. I know that this will change by A4/Hell, but this is the build that I've been playing with.
I call this build Playing It Safe, aimed at surviving packs of 20+ enemies at once. Also, Elective Mode should definitely be enabled for situations later on.
1) Electrocute - Chain Lightning
2) Disintegrate - Chaos Nexus (Until Volatility)
3) Diamond Skin - Prism
4) Energy Armor - Absorption (Until Force Armor)
5) Blizzard - Grasping Chill
6) Explosive Blast - Unleashed (Until Hydra - Venom)
Passive: Blur, Prodigy and Astral Presence
The idea is to stay back with this build so Disintegrate can cut through enemies, spreading out to others with CN, with Blizzard slowing some down, too. Explosive Blast for when they get to close or you're surrounded by tons of insects, or boxed in by melee.
This build has quick packs of poisonous and/or explosive enemies in mind, as well as situations when fighting a boss that hits hard and/or summons groups.
With Astral Presence, Arc-Power is increased by 20 obviously, so Energy Armor is merely cancelling out Astral Presence except for the regen. However, the Arc-Power you miss out on is made up for by Prodigy/Chain Lightning and Energy Armor's Absorption.
So, run around with Energy Armor up and Diamond Skin when boxed in, or at the verge of death, or when you feel it is right to unload some damage on the enemy briefly. AOE and proper slow effects will quell annoying packs. Run, raise defenses, damage and repeat.
I won't be using this during Inferno all the same.
