How to get a WD to Inferno

NOTE: This thread is out of date, i haven't updated it since A2 Hell

I'm posting the builds i've used and what stats I looked for in gear to get to hell as a WD. I solod and grouped to lvl 60 with absolutely no prob, here are the builds I used at key points:

Lvl 20:
Boss killing: http://us.battle.net/d3/en/calculator/witch-doctor#bcdeUT!.XZ!aaZa
Non Boss: http://us.battle.net/d3/en/calculator/witch-doctor#bcdSUT!.XZ!aaZ

Lvl 30:
Boss Killing: http://us.battle.net/d3/en/calculator/witch-doctor#acYeUT!VXZ!baZaaZ
Non Boss: http://us.battle.net/d3/en/calculator/witch-doctor#acdSUT!VXZ!baZaaZ

lvl 40:
Boss Killing: http://us.battle.net/d3/en/calculator/witch-doctor#acYeUP!VXZ!baZaaZ
Non Boss: http://us.battle.net/d3/en/calculator/witch-doctor#acdSUP!VXZ!baZZaZ

lvl 50:
Boss Killing: http://us.battle.net/d3/en/calculator/witch-doctor#acUPke!VXZ!baabYa
Non Boss: http://us.battle.net/d3/en/calculator/witch-doctor#ckUPdZ!UXV!aYabZa

Hell+ Non Boss:

50+ boss specific:
NM Diablo: http://us.battle.net/d3/en/calculator/witch-doctor#aeUTRP!VXZ!cacZab
Hell Skelly king: http://us.battle.net/d3/en/calculator/witch-doctor#bcUeSP!VXZ!aacaZb
Hell Butcher: http://us.battle.net/d3/en/calculator/witch-doctor#aceUQP!ZXV!ZaacYb

Boss builds focus on the ability to kite while gaining life. Non boss builds focus on raw dps and staying alive. If you notice a boss fight is going horribly wrong (like he's doing damage faster than you can heal, or getting hit with something nearly kills you) these builds give you the option to leave most fights, with the fetish + soul walk + spirit combo. Cast soul walk/fetish simultaneously and run away as far and fast as you can. Hit esc and click leave game. Your fetish will easily distract the boss for 7 seconds, spirit vessel gives you another 3.

For gear you want every piece of gear to have INT and VI whenever possible.

But the higher order of stats goes: VI > INT = +damage = Increased attack speed > resist all > Health on hit > STR = DEX = Any resistance > Health from globe > everything else

I hope this helps, if a higher lvl player from another class post a similar guide i'll attach it.

Thanks for this. Im not as far as you on my WD but I'll share my throughts.
On the level 20 non-boss build, assuming you have good gear 200+ DPS 2k health you can play more aggressively at that point. I'd drop poison darts for explosive frogs for your close range DPS. Id drop Locust Swarm for Acid pool. Basically drop acid pool then spam bats. If anything gets close frogs. Nothing should get close though. I'd also drop Jungle Fortitude for Mana regen.
If you do the spirit walk/soul harvest combo you can basically drop anything in a heart beat. If you arent a soul harvest player then just pick up horrify for a second defensive cooldown. Even zombie dogs still work on normal.

For boss, I'd go with a MAX DART build. Grab jungle fortitude and 20% damage resist on poison passive. Haunt is great combo with Darts. Same comment on Soul Harvest, if thats not your style then you can pick up another defensive cooldown, zombie dogs or acid.

Again, this is all on normal where you can BLOW things up and breeze through if you spend like 30k at the auction house.

I havent read all your builds, but i found that the passive "vision quest" in your lvl 50 boss-kill does nothing. You only have 3 spells which can be on CD. i dont know if its an error, if not I would ofcuz suggest you to change to something else ;)

So for the lvl 40 non-boss build.

Fetish army over Gargantuan? I have found Gary to be a great help and the cooldown on Army seems way too long...and do they even pull aggro?

I am 36 and am looking to use a build like that. Does gary just get owned in late nightmare? Is that why?

Honestly I love gargantuan as a level 51 WD right now. Its amazing with the Restless Giant rune.

I'm guessing in hell Gargantuan will become less useful. That is when I will replace it.

Ya that is what I thought and I love Gary too. He smells pretty bad but...doesn't talk your ear off.

Fetish Army has been pretty terrible in my experience so far...I do like Hex alot also.

Garg seems to get terrible once you hit NM, you can't keep him alive, where fetish serves as a panic button. If you are losing to some elite vortex molten mobs you can pop fetish and win the fight pretty easy. Fetish's actually distract and do awesome damage.

Gargantuan with restless giant is amazing. If you do it right you can have 2 restless giants if you spawn a new 1 after the first 1 dies. Great tank, great damage and has definitely saved me in boss fights and a lot of tight scenarios.

garg dies to elite packs every fight at some point in nm, so he's bad in non boss fights

fetish + soul walk + spirit vessel let you esc+leave fight any boss fight that is going badly, not to mention a fetish after a boss lands a hit will distract him long enough for you to heal, and fetish does superior damage.

I don't have that big of a problem keeping my gargantuan alive. If i have see it at half health and see a health globe lying around its very easy to keep it alive. And the ability to get 2 restless giants is amazing. With soul harvest at level 51 with about 1.7k dps that thing crits for just over 2k.

And the cooldown on fetishes is just unacceptable to me.

You know I went through most of nightmare on a monk using Mystic Ally and that thing is a beast! He could tank anything and only ever died if he got gibbed by molten or arcane sentries, etc.

It is fairly disappointing that Gary can't do that. I guess I'll just try both Fetish and Gary and see what happens.

P.S. Shouldn't a WD summon be stronger than an effin monk summon!?

Gary can tank a lot but honestly it has no place after nightmare. Hex is just too solid a spell with a 3 second cooldown to ever use Gary.

The more I look at the lvl 40 and 50 builds the more I like the idea of just mowing !@#$ down...can't wait to get home from work and try it out.

As much damage as a garg can tank a Templar can tank much more if you throw any gear on him. I really feel garg isn't necessary after 40.
