Templar dialogue

One of the Templar's random dialogue statements is something like "Does the darkness not fear the light? The light is both a literal and figurative foe of darkness."
Can someone explain or give an example of how the light exists as a foe of darkness in a figurative form?

Literally: Close your door and curtains and then... turn on the light. THE LIGHT VANQUISHED THE DARKNESS!

Figuratively: Angels vs Demons, Being righteous/a good person and its impacts on the world, etc.
