DevArmaya no this is not an unlucky streak, I am only lvl 42 but i have crafter over 100 items that were my level and i have never used one . . . so i was just making materials out of the things that i crafted..... but then i realized that i was just making more crap out of the materials and found that it was just better to VENDOR them because no one has ever bought anything from me in the AH. DO NOT WASTE YOUR MONEY LIKE I HAVE |

The other problem is that your sample size (n) is too low. If the random system dictates a 1% chance for an upgrade item (it is more like 0.01%) then, on average, every 100 items made leads to a good item. Let's say it goes down to 500k for 5 items crafted. Or, 100k per item.
For every 100 items you find one good item. You also spend 10 mil gold making it. However, while you are farming that 10 mil gold, you also "crafting" blues by the act 1 mobs you are killing, which could randomly lead to an upgrade. The smithing is not really worth it: more like icing on the cake as you do not have to be out there fighting mobs to make stuff. That goes for the AH too... I think the smith is going to be much more valuable on hardcore, as death is much more significant, leading to a drive to craft over farming inferno mobs and slipping up. |

Yes it's kinda sad that some legendaries are !@#$tier than some blues.

Crafting is good until about level 25. Then you're usually better off ignoring it. Sad fact. I have dumped hundreds of thousands of gold making worthless junk when I could have just gone to the AH, spent way less and walked out with items I actually wanted.
Only thing is I feel cheap/dirty doing it so I don't, so I just sit around in junk gear haha.

I have to agree with most items crafted being complete garbage. Max damage on the hand crossbow is 250? Seriously? 1/4th of what can be found from drops, yet the crafted version takes 100k, materials, and the Blacksmith Plan. Complete RUBBISH! It makes no sense.

Story. That's not the best recipe for Rare pants in the game, it's the lowest level 60 rare pants. |

I cannot believe how dim witted all the whiners are in this post. Crafting is useful for low level gear and the 6 stat ilvl 62 armors and the ilvl 62 2-hand weapons. These are the ilvls where armors and 2-hand weapons can roll very nice mods. Now good luck affording the plans :D

I agree crafting isn't worth doing unless you have a big bank roll (50 mil+) and want to play the D3 lotto.
I've spent around 20 mil in materials and fees crafting 140-6 prop bracers and I'm lucky if I broke even on 139 out of 140 of them. However, one of my crafts was a 148int/35str/70AR/4.5CC/15MF/15GF bracer which is basically what I consider my "profit" from crafting. Then again I could of just sold the receipe and bought something similar.... |

well so far the drops and gear are just like d2 you can never find elite stuff. so this will lead d3 to be hacked out of control like d2 was and ruin the game. only difference is now you can buy cards with real money and buy your gear on ah. so pay or suck thats not good.they need to make this game so anybody can play and have chance to make great character for free. instead of using gear as a means to squeeze every dollar out of you. i loved d2 and d1 thought this would be different but it is nothing but frustration..
