I loved finding good gear for my follower and customizing them in Diablo II; so why can't we still do the same in Diablo III? I don't see why giving them slots for armor is going to make the SP experience bad for anyone, if anything it just it's all the more better for those who prefer using followers in SP and don't co-op.
PS Please increase follower damage too. Nothing is more annoying than getting an awesome weapon for your follower and it really meaning nothing. The damage doesn't even scale well at you level with them it seems Even if it's 50% damage, please Blizzard!
Have to admit, watching the Templar hit for 90 damage while i'm hitting for 1000 with a hate generator is kind of miserable to an extent. but acceptable. Followers are there to be aid, not a second party member who does half the dps on the boss.
Even if they did 50% of their auto-attack damage, it still is nowhere close to the total damage of a player class - I wasn't asking for that. 15% of the weapon damage is just way too low. I mean, if we're going to give valuable items and equipment to them, why not make it worth something at least?
Cannon fodder? No, Zombie dogs are cannon fodder. Followers are investments and support in many different ways. They are meant to supplement your abilities I know, but 15% damage of a weapon is minuscule - that's all I'm trying to say.

I really hate this change. I read a dev blog thing about it before the game came out, basically it's yet another simplification. They said they don't want us to have to worry about fully equipping another character (or three), so they reduced it to just a few slots. Basically another change where they took something great about D2 and ruined it for the sake of simplicity and to pull in more mainstream players.
I agree. there are a lot of over simplifications in my opinion.
1. No cloth, leather, chain, plate. (all gear is same for all classes)
2. Can not fully equip companions. Can not customize them.
3. All characters look the same. ( really? I know we couldn't in D2 but this is modern game)
4. No HUB zone, to meet and interact with other players. Most CO-OP games that are DRM have this to make it worth while. trading, dueling, socializing.
5. I have to logout to use auction house. I can only list 10 items, I can not cancel an auction.
6. No Guilds. Would be nice to have guilds, even though not needed. Just so you have a common pool of players to play with.
7. No VOIP. Would be nice to at least have the option.
It is silly. I want to worry about them, especially when my inventory and stash is maxed out with rare stuff I can't get rid of unless I salvage it, but it feels wrong to salvage a really good item u know someone would love. Lately I've gone around from game to game and showing ppl what I have they might want and just giving it to them.
I keep saying to myself oh that would be great for Templar, etc cause I'm so used to D2. Just a bummer.
ps: Im on US servers and am a lvl32 witch doctor (Kent) atm. Have a whole chest full of rare stuff my tag is Kent#6256. Always need gold but otherwise come check out my items and get some free !@#$. Sorry no Barb stuff keep have a few friends who have already taken the better gear. Witch Doctors and Wizards in the 20s are especially welcome!!!
Agree... I also miss Follower customization....Amount of stuff that drops during the game is enough for us to salvage and equip companions....
Justiful is right with 2 other points:
1. Gear is the same for all classes...I have mixed feelings about this...
Getting an item with a right stats is hard enough.....getting an item with right stats on a specific type of gear would be a nightmare :)) although I wouldn`t complain....the harder - the better for me :)
2. Biggest flaw in Diablo 3 for me is: All chars look the same...sure you can paint gear with dyes... but my top end game DH will look the same as other top end game DH...Sets look nice...but we all like our chars to look different...
I do not agree with Justiful on few points:
In general Diablo never was MMORPG...and it isn`t still (thank god)
If I want to play "social game" I play WoW
Having guilds, HuB zones etc would make this game another MMORPG in my opinion and we want to avoid that.
Personally I play CoOp mode with my family....I`m getting shivers when I will think about random grouping with people....Did that on Stress beta,,,..people join with no hello or anything and leave in the middle of fights....
One of the best thing in Diablo 3 from my point of view is that I can tell everyone to fck off and play the game ALONE :P
Were we playing the same game here? D2 mercs could carry only 3 items: Armor, helm and weapon. Act 3/5 mercs don't count.
D3 followers can use 5: 2 rings, amulet, follower-specific trinket and a weapon. Hell, the templar even gets another slot for a shield.
As for simplifying the followers themselves, you had a lot of choice sure, but it really just came down to which aurabot you wanted: Might, Holy Freeze and maybe Defiance.
What you're really arging about is the simplification of items in general.
