Hey just wanted to make a log of my melee wizard. See if anyone else is out there doing the same thing in hc? I just hit lvl 31. Currently act 4 normal mode (i know its EZ MODE). Can't wait for NM and beyond. And yes. I plan to stay melee...even with champ pacs. May the gods of diablo wish me luck.

current build at lvl 51:

Hope it is viable in hell but I wouldn't get your hopes up. As a DH I'll die if I sit in melee for a few seconds in nm lol.

'lo again op

I tried wicked wind when I got it, but I didn't like being oom, and it's radius isn't all that great imo.

I'm level 44, in nm act 3, running spectral blades and arcane hydra (1 level from temporal flux which I *assume* decreases attack speed = defensive ability).

Diamond skin, frost nova, wave of force, energy armor keep me alive pretty well when I'm not cc'd. I need to get to swapping out wave with mirror image though...cc is scary, and image works while cc'd I think.

yea thats why im thinking critical mass + diamond skin + evocation. Hoping for Perm diamond skin.

I don't think it would work, monks and barbs have it rough enough with their native 30% dr advantage over a melee wizard. I think you would have better luck surviving by playing it as a caster.

its already working tho. there are several melee wizards in SC hell if not inferno already. Thing is HC is all about survival and I can guarantee those wizards arn't as geared for survival as I or other melee HC wizards plan to be.

I'd argue the core of the build is centered around diamond skin and critical mass. AKA taking no damage

Good luck on your melee build.

I actually have a suggestion :
http://us.battle.net/d3/en/calculator/wizard#WXOYgS!gfb!YaZYYc

Explaination is to work off the CD on nova and Timestop with crits.

So you have a mass of mobs, start off with nova and get at least 5 of them, then time stop. Nova, energy armor will increase crit. Also, your healing blades will heal you everytime you crit. If you don't crit, your Blood Magic from Magic weapon will still heal you for hp as well..

Had alot of fun with the melee build in nm mode softcore with my wiz. Then i threw it out of the window in hell.

Have fun!

is current goal. Changes slightly very often, but the gist is there. Not having much trouble yet.

Not sure about changing wave of force to mirror image tho...wave is very useful with that stun and huge knockback. Saves me from getting surrounded.

problem with your build is there's no immediate escape mechanism. In HC having an escape is NECESSARY. If your a wiz in HC and dont have teleport your gonna die some day guaranteed. swap out time for worm hole and id like.

In SC - they die all the time I guarantee you. Diamond skin has a cool down, a long one at that. A Melee Wizard will die to the first waller/frozen/arcane mob it encounters in Hell as it will have no way to properly kite (the only way to kill a mob like this without dying)

Also - Diamond skin only absorbs about 20K damage - this will be used up pretty fast in some situations in Hell.

hmm.. wave force stun huh. how's hydra damage? and man your risky without that teleport haha.

I just came up with this build. tell me what you think?

or

assuming you have the right gear

I know diamond has a cooldown. exactly why we have critical mass. And I personally like to put evocation on there for good measure. With enough crit its basically an imba long diamond skin

really I only see diamond skin becoming useless in inferno. hell should be fine as long as you have the right gear.
