Diablo® III

Teach you how to update. ;)

This is ONLY for non enUS client & play NA(North America) server user.
If you are play in EU or ASIA server, please don't do this.

There is two way, just choose ONE to do.

*************************************************************************************************************
PLAN 1
*************************************************************************************************************
1. please close Diablo3 first, and use Notepad open "agent.db" this file (*1)

Where is the "agent.db" file? (*2)
Win7 & Vista is in C:\ProgramData\Battle.net\Agent\agent.db
WinXP is in C:\Documents and Settings\All Users\Application Data\Battle.net\Agent\agent.db
Mac user can see this post (thanks NDT)
http://us.battle.net/d3/en/forum/topic/5152415037?page=5#100

**NOT the Diablo3 game folder's agent.db !! (thanks Darkstaf and Eliarainne)

2. find ALL(there have three or more)
http://****.patch.battle.net:1119/patch and change to http://enUS.patch.battle.net:1119/patch

**** is your client version. (like below)
enGB
enSG
esES
deDE
frFR
itIT
plPL
zhTW
koKR
esMX
ptBR

3. don't forget save file!! then close Notepad and restart Diablo3, it will update to 1.0.2.9749

IMPORTANT

1. backup the agent.db to other folder before you modify it. (thank Fight4Love)

2. If you can't see the file or folder, you can see the following microsoft web support.
How to show hidden files
Winsows 7
http://windows.microsoft.com/en-us/windows7/Show-hidden-files
Windows Vista
http://windows.microsoft.com/en-us/windows-vista/Show-hidden-files
Windows XP
http://www.microsoft.com/resources/documentation/windows/xp/all/proddocs/en-us/win_fcab_show_file_extensions.mspx

3. you can change it back, after you updated it. (please dont forget close Diablo3 before you change it!)

*************************************************************************************************************

*************************************************************************************************************
PLAN 2 (2012.5.31)
*************************************************************************************************************

1. Close Diablo 3.

2. Copy the file "hosts" to desktop. (*1)

3. Right click desktop's "hosts" file > Open > choose "Notepad" > OK

4. Copy following words and paste below.

#######################################
# us.patch.battle.net 12.129.206.133
12.129.206.133 enUS.patch.battle.net
12.129.206.133 esMX.patch.battle.net
12.129.206.133 ptBR.patch.battle.net

# eu.patch.battle.net 213.248.127.133
12.129.206.133 enGB.patch.battle.net
12.129.206.133 deDE.patch.battle.net
12.129.206.133 frFR.patch.battle.net
12.129.206.133 itIT.patch.battle.net
12.129.206.133 plPL.patch.battle.net
12.129.206.133 esES.patch.battle.net

# kr.patch.battle.net 121.254.200.133
12.129.206.133 zhTW.patch.battle.net
12.129.206.133 koKR.patch.battle.net

# sg.patch.battle.net 202.9.66.78
12.129.206.133 enSG.patch.battle.net
#######################################

5. Then File > Save file.

6. Copy desktop's "hosts" file back, and Overwrite.

7. Restart Diablo 3, and it will connect to enUS update Server.

P.S.
1. The "hosts" file is in "C:\Windows\System32\drivers\etc\hosts"
(Mac user is in "/etc/hosts")

2. If you can't see the file or folder, you can see the following microsoft web support.
How to show hidden files
Winsows 7
http://windows.microsoft.com/en-us/windows7/Show-hidden-files
Windows Vista
http://windows.microsoft.com/en-us/windows-vista/Show-hidden-files
Windows XP
http://www.microsoft.com/resources/documentation/windows/xp/all/proddocs/en-us/win_fcab_show_file_extensions.mspx

3. You can delete the words after you update.
(I suggest you can keep it UNTIL BZ change the NA update server IP Address.)

It does work! For most people the link in the file should be something like: enGB.patch.battle.net:1119/patch you have to change all of it to enUS.patch.battle.net:1119/patch

Basically directs the launcher to the US patch server.
I take it back! It seems to be working.

Will confirm in a second

JUGAR
Thanks for the info.

Just followed these instructions (windows 7 make sure you go to the path given by OP and not program files) and patch downloaded within seconds, now playing happily

Working for me i !@#$ing love you.
This worked!

As mentioned by the OP ou have to change the "agent.db" file in the ProgramData\Battle.net\Agent folder, not the ".agent.db" one in Program Files (x86)\Diablo III

Thanks!
GENIOUS
Where is the programdata folder located exactly. All i see is diablo 3 in x86

Make sure you go to the ProgramData path, and not the D3 game folder.
Worked for me, and I'm thankful, OP.
Bump, keep this visible.
