I don't know how many times I've walked to the gem combiner person not realizing that all my gems are in my stash and then have to walk all the way back to my stash, right-click all my gems to send them to my inventory, then walk back to the gem combiner, combine all the gems, then walk back to my stash to put them all back.
Think maybe the fun-over-realism concept applies here? Should Blizzard make it to where you can combine gems that are in your stash? I mean, you can walk through other characters as if they were ghosts. That's far less realistic than the idea that you can combine gems that are in your stash :) What do you think?

The only part of the game that would even bother someone is if they are on Act I. The Jeweler hangs out way beyond where your stash is located.
Other than that, no. Usually the Jeweler is close enough to your stash that this shouldn't even bother a mentally healthy person. |

In fact I don't even see the interest of having a seperate stash & inventory.
So it would be simpler to have only 1 inventory, only available in town. The "bad" thing is that you can't equip a new item collected right away. But all useful items are coming from the AH anyway ... |

I just noticed there's some greyed out bag things in my stash. Is that something I can eventually upgrade to, to where I can store extra stuff? Like if you keep buying stash slots... And if so are they mobile stash type things? Bags you carry around? :)
Which would eliminate the need for my original suggestion.

You can upgrade stash size, no you don't get bags.

I grab all my gems. Its the dang pages that I forget. Then I sit there wondering for a second why it wont let me combined when I know I have enough gems.

I do this too... although I often forget a gem or two also. The jeweler is just something that is not used very often for me so I tend to forget. |
