Severe Latency spikes/random disconnects

Hey guys,

I'm having terribly issues trying to play D3 =\

First off, I've been getting Error 3007 and followed all of the port forwarding guides and even did some other things which greatly reduced the amount I get DC'd. Right now my main problem is random latency spikes.

I'll be running around with 100 or so MS than all of the sudden I get a HUGE lag spike of about 8-900MS for a few seconds and than back to normal.... this happens every 15-20 seconds or so and if I weren't playing with any friends would render the game pretty much unplayable =\

It's not my computer, router, or internet. I've run speed test and I'm getting 10mbs or higher on average, I've talked to my roommates and no one is even on the internet at the time I'm playing so no one is downloading anything.

I just picked up a ATI Radeon HD6980 in January, running a quad core intel processor with 8gb of RAM and it plays any other game just fine!

If anyone has any help/suggestions I would greatly appreciate it!! Also I've never tried contacting blizz for tech support, but I'm guessing this is how you do it and just wait for them to reply?

Thanks,
Oda

Hey Odarion,

Do any of your other roommates play? It would be helpful to know if any of the other computers on the network get latency spikes too.

No, I'm the only one who plays the game on the network. My roommate is also a gamer but we have never experienced anything like this before. While I'm playing (I've never NOT experienced this issue since arriving back at my apt on sunday the 20th) I've checked and he's not playing any games or dling anything from the internet. He plays more single player games for the most part.

But we've played battlefield 3 together and other multiplayer online games that require a fast internet connection and we've never experienced terrible consistent lag spikes like this before =\

Thanks for the quick reply!!

Not to hijack your thread, but I am having the same problem from more or less the same location. I will go anywhere from 100 ms to the highest I've seen so far was 2.2k

Odarion, your trace looks good overall, with some small discrepancies:
1 4 ms <1 ms <1 ms 192.168.0.1

Usually we'll want to see <1 all across the board, and that's probably an insignificant glitch. Otherwise, I would still check for the latest firmware for your router (what's the make and model?). I understand BF3 is running smoothly, and it's an FPS, but it's also a different animal altogether. Every game will utilize network protocols and equipment differently.

Hop 4 showed one timeout as well, which may just be a glitch as well, but I'd run a pathping to be sure, which is more thorough.
4 15 ms 15 ms * te-0-9-0-2-ar03.northdade.fl.pompano.comcast.net [69.139.181.153]

Xerties, the first hop in your trace suggest you're using a wireless connection, is this right? Otherwise, your trace looks good.

Not currently, I stopped using my router when I started having latency issues hoping it would solve the problem. I'm currently running a direct connection. Much like the OP I can play any other game fine with good latency.

Also an update:

I tried playing on my laptop (also followed the directions for it as far as portforwarding goes etc.) and I still got the latency issue.

Again, thank you very much for your time!

Give me a few minutes I am running a pathping myself...and it's...well I am getting interesting results so I am running it a couple times to make sure it isn't a fluke.

Update: I am apparently experiencing a fairly large amount of packet loss.

A BLIZZARD RESPONSE!!!

Velnrak, there are TONS of us experiencing extremely high latency. A whole bunch of us submitted traces four days ago to Blizzard at their request. Since then we've heard nothing. Is this being investigated?

Xerties, there is a lot of packet loss, and I would show this trace to your ISP for further analysis.

Odarion, I would check D-Link's support site for the latest firmware, which looks to be version 1.13NA, dated 1/28/2010, for the DIR-825:

http://www.dlink.com/products/?tab=3&pid=DIR-825&rev=DIR-825

DIR-825_REVB shows Version 2.07, dated 4/04/2012:

http://www.dlink.com/products/?tab=3&pid=DIR-825&rev=DIR-825_revB

MyLittlePwny, we're continuing to investigate all of these reports, and I'll keep you updated.

Going to call them right now. If I get anything out if it or whatever I'll just post here.

Just adding- when I called comcast, etc- I had them run this on THEIR end and they saw packet drops too- so they are sending a tech over tomorrow. just FYI.
