The best I've done is use windowed mode and size up the screen so it doesn't stretch to the side. I'm guessing some glider would allow you to fill the rest of the screen up with extra terrain some-how, but I haven't found anything like that.
Depending on your monitor, you can set it to "stretch" the image to fit the screen. But this would make things look really really weird.
But aside from that: the answer is no. Diablo 2 supports 2 resolutions only: 640x480 and 800x600.
