Diablo® III

Only weapon DPS matters for thier damage?

That's what I assume, anyway. Their damage number is just something like "2.63" (I'm level 12 or so), and it goes up with a higher DPS weapon, even if its base damage is lower.

So do they always attack at the same speed then, so they base damage from the weapon's DPS only, or what?

Kinda silly to see the Templar running around with a dagger, but OK.

And yeah, I've noticed their damage is functionally zero anyway, I'd just like to know.

Thanks.

The damage contributed by your followers is based on their weapon, but it is multiplied by their primary stat. If you mouse over STR for the Templar, Int for the Enchantress or DEX for the Scoundrel, you'll see the current multiplier based on their gear.

As per my post in another thread:

Follower stats work identical to player stats for calculating DPS, HP, Dodge, Resist, etc. The only additional follower rules are:

A) All stat mods on items are multiplied by 2.5. Fractions are retained.

B) Followers have an additional damage multiplier to keep them well below player DPS.

Templar DPS Mod: 15%
Enchantress DPS Mod: 20%
Scoundrel DPS Mod: 25%

C) And for shared stats, their MF or GF is multiplied by 20% and works additively with yours.
