this problem happened second time in a month after a new release of patch that tells you a patch is required when you log into diablo 3 while the game is getting into authentication credentials step. my connection is good, EU server is up, game worked fine yesterday and today after successfully installed the new patched, the game keeps telling me "patch required" and game automatically restarts even though the game is up to date.
please fix soon.

4. Save and close the file.
5. Now delete the Agent folder in the Battle.net folder: (don't skip this step)
(Note that ProgramData and Application Data are hidden folders.)
6. Delete the Updates folder. (Diablo III\Updates)
7. Move the Diablo III.exe file out of the Diablo III folder.
8. Run Diablo III Launcher as admin by right clicking on the launcher and selecting "Run as admin".

the same exact thing is happening to me. Launcher loops over and over repeating me that a patch is required. I guess they will fix it soon. Sad I had a full 5 hours free for play tonite, first time since the game came out lol.. and that happens.
Trying Blue's instructions now. It appears to be working (patch is downloading via launcher, which it never did before. Will update in a sec. Pretty "complex" instructions for the average user. Might want to add the fact you need to kill the agent process before you can delete that folder (assuming you have been trying to launch the game). Please sticky.
Edit: Confirmed this fixes the problem. Please sticky with edit I mentioned above.
2nd Edit: Actually would include instructions on how to show hidden folders.

You shouldn't have to. If something goes wrong, just repair your Install. (Unless you want to install for a different reason)

moving the diablo III.exe out of the diablo III folder just makes you unable to launch the game. says a dll is missing.
