Crazy High Latency

DrunknSticky

Some players with your type of router have had success in resolving this issue by changing the wireless mode to B instead of the default which is usually both B and G.

Try this:

- Browse to http://gateway.2wire.net
- Click on the Home Network button at the top of the page
- In the gray bar across the top, click on Wireless Settings
- under Additional Settings (defaults recommended)
- change the wireless to Wireless Mode: 802.11b
- Click the Save button at the bottom to save the settings

Sometimes switching back b/g and then back to b helps.

This is absolutely ridiculous. How am I supposed to play when I'm consistently at 1k ms? I've tried everything I can to fix this problem. I've been searching the net for hours on end. Has anyone rectified this?

It's funny because I play D3 on PS3 console and it works perfectly well. I also play CoD on my laptop and I never ever experience latency this bad, it was go up as high as 400 but that's it. From what I've read on all of Battle.net forums is that I'm definitely not alone... That being said, why hasn't this been resolved?

Contact rogers, you're seeing packetloss with their peering provider. Globalcrossing, and to be honest be ready to beat your head against the wall when they tell you it's "all on your end." One of the main reasons why I jumped from rogers to teksavvy, though lots of other cable internet providers around these days like start.ca, electronicbox, vmedia. All have fair to excellent ratings, though check dslreports.com/forums/23 (this is the canadian forum group) then pop over to Canadian Broadband and take a look around.

Well unless you're on satellite-nothing you can do, and same if it's wireless. You've got a serious latency issue, if you're on cable it's a line/signal issue most likely, and if it's DSL it's a serious line issue. Or a serious congestion issue and in all of the other cases you need to contact your ISP and find out what's going on.

It isn't my internet connection or my ISP. I can stream netflix, play CoD, and download music all at the same time with lightning fast response and zero lag. I only get this crazy latency when I open D3, I'm 100% sure that everything is good on my end. I've checked my internet connection several times using speedtest.net . I even wired directly up to my modem using an ethernet cable.

900ms on your first hop says it *is* your ISP or at your end. Either you're downloading something, or you've got serious congestion. Speedtest is fully useless in determining latency issues.

So then why is it that I don't get over 400ms with any other game but with d3 I'm at 1k-1.3kms?

if you dont want to accept the facts of your own tracert up there then dont complain on the tech forum. ppl are just telling what is wrong.

it is NOT normal to have a ping of 900+ latency in the first few hops. that is a problem with either
A) your hardware
or
B) your ISP

either way calling your ISP should be able to help you resolve the issue you are having.
