Diablo® III

Let's Talk WD...

You can have success with pets in later difficulty levels. However, in order to do so, you must outgear the content to a degree that using our generic darts or bears build would roflstomp the very same situation that your pets are doing "reasonably well" on.

I can understand most "balance" complaints, but I think the resource system is great. It feels different from all the rest. Sure spamming most of his primaries doesn't generate mana, but that's what makes this resource unique in how to manage it. If you want to manage it more like other resources, use Runes or passives to make it happen.

Explain your mana management please.

True, however WD is also the class that needs to use the primary skills least.

Well, of the two viable builds one is centered around a primary skill, rendering this comment pretty baseless.

Define "pet's are horrible". I'm doing fine with them in inferno...
I'm just going to go ahead and call you a liar. It'll save time constructing an argument against utter nonsense.

Agreed. Sort of. CC limitation on elites is very problematic for the class that relies on CC to survive.
Yup.

Disagree. We have Horrify and Confusion as well
Assuming their not elite mobs, which if they aren't who cares...

Strong disagree. Never used either of these builds.
Well I suppose you're unique, but you're also the only person to claim pets were usable in inferno, so forgive me if I question your input.

You are not a melee character. I don't see how this matters.
Then you don't understand how kiting works, in either case I stopped taking you seriously at "pets are viable in inferno"

True, however WD is also the class that needs to use the primary skills least. The mana cost of the primary skills, except plague of toads is ignorable (i.e. you shouldn't be running out of mana by using your primary, or even come close).

You can go OOM spamming Darts, unless your attack speed is very slow. No primary skills are worth using over Splinters (or Flame Dart against poison resist I guess).

In what, act 1 non elites? Act 1 champs one shot gargs, Act 2 they wouldn't survive long enough to do anything even against non elites. Fetish Army is pretty useful though, if you could count them as pets.

How are you in Inferno saying this? Kiting is all we can really do unless you have a tank.

I bet it involves either the vast majority of his skills devoted to mana regen in some form, or never casting any of our higher damage non-primary skills.

Twenty seconds of usefulness every two minutes.

WD: Premature ejaculation, the class!

regarding pets:

if you gear in a very specific way and devote all 3 of your passives towards them, and additionally greatly out gear the content, they can survive the first two acts. Doesn't change the fact that act 3 hits way too hard for them to be viable. And using up most of the affixes on your gear for pet survivability. And when they inevitably die due to poor AI and standing in...everything the huge CD prevents you from doing anything else.

If you greatly outgear the content then your just making it harder on yourself by running pets. Not to mention that your gear has zilch to do with their survivability.

It's because you get to cast an effective spell four to six times, and then you're completely useless for the next forty seconds to two minutes or longer.

It's great fun.

Verified as false by multiple testers.

Pet survivability increases with the following stats, in order of most effective to least:
Intelligence
Strength/Armor
Dexterity

Vitality has no effect.

Hey if you're having trouble playing the WD why not try picking up some awesome tips from the Game Director, Jay Wilson!: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=7_dgypYrgTQ

So that would make it a teenage class if it's ready to go again in a couple of minutes.

Can't watch at work. What (totally useless) wisdom does he share?

WD was my first lv60 as well, I really enjoyed playing him (and actually thought he's OP) until I hit the brick wall that is Inferno act2.

Then I leveled a monk, which made me wonder "why is mystic ally not only more useful(powerful), cheaper to cast, but also no cooldown compared to gargantuan?"

I leveled monk first, myself, but not only do I find MA to be better in Act 2 for helping out and living a short while to do so, but even my barb's handling Act 2 better. The WD's got issues with mobility and build options if you want to be a kiter. (to be fair, in addition to kiting you have the option to be dead)

I've heard this, but haven't seen the test, nor is there any kind of battle log to verify, nor is it mentioned anywhere in the tool tips.

It may be the case, but I'm skeptical.

His persistence is admirable, but I believe most would find that sort of stop and go style ... unsatisfying.

Especially compared to the constant, steady, and long lasting performance the other classes bring to the table.

5. Pigeon holed into either SV/VQ/Bears or SplinterStrong disagree. Never used either of these builds. There are many other builds that are very viable, and the skills we have good synergies. Corpse spiders is very often overlooked, but they work wonders with CC+pets.6. Horribly slow animation on dartsYou are not a melee character. I don't see how this matters. WD is supposed to stay out of the fire and spam skills that need to warm up a second or two to do decent damage. And use pets/CC to stay out of the fire. Darts build is trying to use WD as a wizard, but I'm nto sure how survivable it is, since we don't have the personal protection of the wizard. What is your build, what are your stats, and how much did you spend on the AH?

Didn't buy anything from AH (well I've spent about 50K (yes, fifty thousand) gold in hell, as I couldn't get a dagger with decent damage myself, but those items are not being used anymore)

I frequently switch builds. I haven't played my WD for couple of days, so I don't remember the current build right now, but in general it goes like this:
Primary:
Either of these:
Toads (exploding, addler or affinity)
Spiders (medusa or fire )
Darts (numbing, spined or splinters)

Secondary:
Grasp of the dead (unbreakable, desperate or rain of corpses)
Zombie Charger (Bears or explosive beast)
Locust swarm (searing)
Acid cloud (corpse bomb)

1:
Sprit walk (Jaunt or healing journey)

2:
Soul harvest (siphon)
Hex (Hedge magic or painful transformation)
Sacrifice (Next of kin or for the master)

3:
Confusion (Mass hysteria)
Zombie dogs (leech, life link, rabid dogs)
Big bad vodoo (ghost trance)

4:
Gargantuan (Bruiser, stinker)
Fetish army (Any rune)

Passives:
Jungle fortitude (must with pets)
Bad medicine
Pierce the veil
Fetish sychopanths
Spirit vessel
Blood ritual

Less commonly:
Grave injustive
Spritual attunement
Gruesome feast
