I was pretty amazed when I posted a single post on the general forum and a little over 30 minutes later my post was on page five. Some of the stickies on that board have 100+ pages of responses.
Some of it is all in good fun, most posts are just ranting about this or that. I get enough complaining in my life, I really don't need to sift through volumes more... that's why I like fan fiction and story forums.
So my question to you all, how do we get people to become a little more active in positive discussion, story ideas, etc. and how to fix what's broken rather than just the non-stop whine fest in General? (And yes, I understand the irony of complaining about complainers.)
Penny for your thoughts.
On one note, I guess we are all victims of our own desire for perfection. I see many complaining about something I find fine, and sometimes (ashamed to admit it) vice versa. Focusing on the constructive aspects to it, i.e. the fun, or the stories, maybe even thinking of what might be in store over random nonsensical things. I don't know. But some in this community really need to join the joke-threads and loosen up, then start being constructive. So yeah, gonna read some funny things before bed, lol. Peace out!
Now I got my writing spirit back I'm putting something together that is somewhat a simple task yet a challenge. Just need to write up and refine some examples before I post it up sometime later today or tomorrow. Maybe it will generate enough interest to hold up and others will take their own spin on it, whether serious or for pure silliness.
As far as I seen so far neither the Warcraft nor the StarCraft fan fiction forums have attempted this particular idea.
We are not all victims of our own desire for perfection. Us logical and respectful people are victims of the illogical and disrespectful people who just selfishly rant and rave about how much needs to change in the game, not caring about what others might think.
With that aside, Melancholy is definitely right. To avoid problems with story threads and the like getting lost in the ether of those infinitely bumped posts, how about creating a universal thread that collects all the stories together, giving a brief description of what each story is about and a link to their specific thread? Every time on those threads adds a new chapter or story we'll edit the main list on the universal thread to reflect that.
Is anyone up for this implementation?
Oie, that would be a viable sticky thread to pursue once this forum builds a bigger community. A dedicated MVP fellow (whenever the D3 group announced) would probably would take up the task although... we wouldn't want to want him or her burdened with summarizing every single fanfic or RPG that appears, eh.
My only concern would be unlike here where battle.net posts are limited to 5000 words while fan forums can have unlimited freedom with their word count in a single post.

I originally posted this over in the Story Forum, but I feel like it's worth repeating. So enjoy.
Are You a Friend of the New?
"In many ways, the work of a critic is easy. We risk very little yet enjoy a position over those who offer up their work and their selves to our judgment. We thrive on negative criticism, which is fun to write and to read. But the bitter truth we critics must face, is that in the grand scheme of things, the average piece of junk is probably more meaningful than our criticism designating it so. But there are times when a critic truly risks something, and that is in the discovery and defense of the new. The world is often unkind to new talent, new creations, the new needs friends." - Anton Ego in Ratatouille
