...So either they are morons and can't figure out how to accomplish a goal without destroying gameplay OR they're just plain lying and the real reason for this is to affect the economy so they can rake in more fees from the RMAH.
Probably a bit of both... As these decisions tend to get taken in comity.
There are also a fair bit of politicking in those direction meetings...
the increase in repair cost was under the assumption that whenever people play they'll be doing so with all 5 stacks of NV
Really? You're serious with this? "The casual player" can't play long enough to get 5 stacks of NV? If you're playing for even 30 minutes at a time, and not just reloading the game every few minutes to try to farm one spot/enemy, you'll end up with 5 stacks of NV just from playing the game and moving from area to area fighting mobs.
This has nothing to do with hardcore/casual, and claiming a "casual" player can't even take the time to get 5 stacks of NV is just simply hilarious. Again, people, stop blowing things out of proportion and outright lying about how bad the issue is to try to get Blizzard's attention. They'll know you're lying about it, and that's just going to make them less likely to listen to people pointing out the issue in reasonable terms. Yes, the repair cost is too high, but no, it's not "OMG THE GAME IS RUINED 500G PER HIT CASUALS CANNOT PLAY" high.

I have now lost 20k running through Nightmare on my level 60 looking for lore books. Obviously I haven't died, and while 20k isn't a huge deal... it sure is a lot to have lost just wandering around killing low level mobs on my way through.
Yes, I could wear lower level gear, or do this on an alt. But why should I have to downgrade gear to save money when I'm looking for books? Insipid.

Blizz broke this game.
Before the game was released I didnt mind the idea of the RMAH, but now the profitability of what should be a tiny part of the game is being put ahead of the actual gameplay...
Im done playing this game until they fix some of these things.
Hell I might as well be playing skyrim for all the time I spend actually playing with my friends too. At least with skyrim if i wanted more gold there was a console command instead of a credit card verification.
Seriously did they not think that we would connect the dots??
"Hmmm looks like items with IAS are selling for more that other items on the RMAH.. thats not cool!
Not everyone uses the RMAH, and not all characters use IAS! The game is unbalanced now and we have to fix it. We want to make unfair amounts of money off of ALL our customers, ALL the time! NERF NERF NERF!!!"
I wish I would have bought the actual disk now instead of just the digital copy, because then I would at least have something to return.
Whoever thought it was a good idea to increase repair costs for being hit clearly is an idiot. This has nothing to do with their explanation to stop death zerging, it is just a half assed tweak to the game that was poorly thought out.
But it is what it is.
LOL, if it's so terrible, why has it been successfully used so many times before?
Did you even read my post? For people with lost of gold, there would be a cap so repair costs are similar to what they cost now.
This isn't about charging wealthy players more, it's about adjusting the repair costs so that poor players are not excessively punished.
IF my solution is terrible, PLEASE tell me... what's the point of this punishment if it has no effect whatsoever on people who have no problem paying to play or farming/botting?
This price (1500 per area) is roughly the price I'm seeing too.
Playing a Barbarian, I just ran Warden to Butcher in Act1 Inferno, which takes me through roughly three zones/areas. My repair bill was about 4000 gold for the 40 minutes this took me, and I certainly got hit more than 8 times during the run.

Everything in 1.03 makes sense except for this change.
Like the OP states, just make it so that you lose some gold from your stash upon death.
As it stands, if you run out of gold, you pretty much can't play that character until you make enough gold with another one to pay the repair bill.
if you farming act 1 your gear not ilvl 62 and ilvl63 when u get that ilvl come here and cry about repair cost ok ?
