06/25/2012 04:15 AMI currently have a new macbook air with 4gb of RAM as my 8gb one is in order. You can change those game settings. You can run the game at 1440x900, anti alliasing on with everything on high except shadows which is turned off and it is very playable. I would say at least 30fps as I have not noticed and stuttering.

I agree that the game is very playable at those settings, however, I am extremely picky when it comes to gameplay. When I play on your recommend settings, I notice slight stuttering and very slight screen tearing, which is unacceptable for "me". Everyone has their own preference. I think that your input will be valuable to the players that don't mind a hiccup here or there, and by hiccup I mean barely noticeable lag/choppiness/etc. I just wanted to put the minds of the gameplay OCD freaks out there like me at ease :).
I have the same machine, (base 13 air) but I'm nowhere near that performance. I am only running D3 and nothing else, and I'm running the lowest 1024x640 and its still choppy. I have everything set to "low" or "off." Its still choppy. So I have two questions.
If I returned this machine and got one with 8GB ram (512 v ram Intel HD 4000) would it increase my FPS?
Any guesses why my machine is so much worse than the others? Are y'all running bootcamp? Im running latest the OSX.
As far as why your systems gameplay is not what mine appears to be, I cannot say as I do not have the 4gb model. Apple has a 14 day return policy with no questions asked and no restocking fee. My recommendation would be to purchase the Macbook Air 8gb, test the game out on that, and if you are happy with the performance return the 4gb model, otherwise return the 8gb model or both.
I am running on Mac osx 10.7.4, with the power-adapter connected (not sure if that matters at all). I cannot attest to the heat issue that you are having as my machine rests on a desk while I play. I also use a mouse to play. The only programs that I have running while playing are Dropbox and BetterSnapTool (both of which are not meant to boost performance for gaming in any way whatsoever). I installed all of the system updates from Apple. I also turned bluetooth off, but that was for energy reasons.
