Cost of crafting star gem?

Assuming I have 27 flawless squares, and all the tome of secrets I need, how much gold does it cost for me to combine the 27 flawless squares into a star gem?

500k even in craft costs.

In order to find out you break even, use this formula
Break even is where you sell in AH and make zero profit and zero loss, anything over this number is profit.

(Tomes+Gems+Craft costs)/0.85

Example:
Say you farmed up both gems and tomes. So cost to craft a single star gem is: 500k
(0+0+500k)/0.85=588,236.
But lets say you bought the gems and tomes. Say 500g per gem and per tome.
You will need 27 gems and 54 tomes.
((27x500)+(54x500)+500k)/0.85=635,883
(13.5k+27k+500k)/0.85=635,883

Nynaeve... WoT ftw :P
My character in Skyrim was Rand Al'Thor (dragon reborn, dragon-born... I had to)

Yeah, I made a Star amy and it dropped me about 500k.

Worth it? Not a chance.

Thanks everyone! I was going to craft one for personal use, but I do have enough flawless square gems/tomes to make an extra 1 or 2 for small profit on the AH.

this

9 x 30 for first step = 270

3 x 50 for the next step = 150

80 for the star

270 + 150 + 80 = 500

Nice link =) Now, I wish Diablo3's official item guide can show the correct gem crafting cost. I wish it was 50 gold...

Right now, the effect of gems is so uninteresting that its hard to get excited about making one.

Right now my primary character (a DH) has about 1600 dexterity. He's wearing 3 green gems. I have the materials to craft perfect gems, but to upgrade all three would cost me ~1.5 million gold. The net gain in dexterity would only be 48 Dex, a roughly 3% improvement.

It's going to be a long long time before 1.5 million gold can't be used to buy me more than a 3% improvement.

But on the bright side you only have to craft those gems once, and you can use them in all your gear forever.

I'm putting the green gem in a weapon, for the 70% crit dmg bonus. Either that, or I'm making a purple gem for 300 LOH.

For dex, I agree, the dex bonus from a star gem is not worth it. It's cheaper to just upgrade your armor piece probably.

600k gold for a Star Amethyst is worth it to me. It's easier to find a good DPS 1H weapon on the GAH with a socket than with 300 LOH.

Plus I'm confident that if I don't need the gem anymore, I can sell it for the same price, since the crafting costs won't (likely) go down and the cost of mats are so small. All that happens is that I'll be down 15%, which is 90K gold.

You can still make a small fortune selling some gems on AH, depending on the kind. Star Emeralds go for ~750k right now . . .

3 (not 9, since it takes 3 Flawless Squares to make a Perfect Square. If you paid 30k 9 times, you'd have 9 Perfect Squares.) x 30 = 90
You need 9 PSq for 3 RadSq for 1Star. If you honestly believed this you'd be making a killing since prices accurately track to 500k+15%.
