Diablo® III

People being banned for using Linux....

Please don't be delibterately dense.

You know that the game was developed for Unix. You know that Warden is automatically going to exclude background applications that interact with the client, like OpenG.

The game is designed to run on a unix system and recognizes WINE because it is part of there mac install.

Look everyone I can troll pointlessly too!!!

And yet Mac OS is supported, but Linux is not...

It's almost as if these two things were distinct operating systems, with their own code.

All this thread is doing is confirming the worst stereotypes about Linux users.

In my opinion it confirms the worst stereotypes of mainstream os users.
You should pick up c/c++ and tell us how different programming is across the nixes.

Why on earth would it bother you that a native linux client would be made?

Not an emulator, sorry dudes.

The most reasonable course of action has already been suggested; have your cadre of banned buddies call customer service and explain the problem. Even if you haven't been banned yet, you can still open a support ticket asking about this; might as well preempt them with your concerns so that if you do get banned, you have some correspondence to back you up.

It's not cpu emulation, not slow. However, it is emulation in a real sense, just like printers who implement hp-gl are said to be emulating it. That's basically what is going on with wine, it's implementing sufficient windows apis to execute a wide variety of programs.

No cpu emulation is going on, though, which is where their name is derived from.

So, again... something unique to Linux (which, for the hundredth time, is not supported) is causing Warden to react.

What's up with the linux hate? Somebody has the balls to not use Windows AND make a thread about unintended (hopefully) bans? Outrageous!

These guys paid $60 for their game just like you did, and they aren't asking for the developers to support their OS choice, they just don't want to get banned while running the game on their chosen platform.

They should have known D3 wasn't supported on linux? Please, of course they knew. What they weren't aware of was the ban hammer getting dropped because of it. It isn't unreasonable to ask if anyone else has had the same problem or has found a solution.

Typical discussion with Linux users. Started with whining that some program doesn't run under Linux and ends with imbecile discussions about software ideology and what recursive acronyms stand for... you Linux guys are so 1990 *sigh*

Yes, you go and pay good money for that blue screen of death...

You are bashing things you have no idea about, you arent computer illiterate enough to understand what wine is, how operating systems work, how PE's are processed yet you make assumptions on blizzards behalf. You are the person who is pointlessly being dense and descriminating against a group of users who dont mean any harm, you want to use windows fine, dont make others use windows and argue pointlessly about things far beyond your grasp. I may come off as pompous or arrogant but read the rest of this thread, and count my actions vs the actions of ignorant windows users bashing me and my linux brethren and you will see which group is attacking who. Seriously get off my back you have no point against linux move along.

First of all, it's computer literate, not "illiterate". That would be the opposite of what you wanted to say.

Second, let me say this with small words. Diablo 3 was made for Windows and Mac OS. That's it. Period.

I appreciate that you want to play on Linux. Go for it. But you do so at your own risk, and you knowingly take on that risk when you play the game on an unsupported OS.

I'm not bashing Linux. I could care less about which OS you use. I'm bashing Linux users for being incapable of asking a question without sounding like they sit on some kind of golden throne of circuit boards, with lowly Window-using peons serving them goblets of Mountain Dew.
This happened a lot with WoW at one point too. Submit a ticket and explain that you are running the game under linux and it should be lifted fairly quickly. Warden and WINE have a bad history.

ITT: Idiots who are not system or network admins unnecessarily use *nix operating systems and play games on them.

Telecomm Engineer & Linux specialist- but yeah, we're all idiots. Don't mind us.

You're literally going out of your way and jumping through hoops to play a game on an unsupported OS. That's not idiotic at all, right?
I seem to remember a couple people from XiP getting banned on D2 for using Linux as well (assuming this is the HackeZ I know). I'm not sure what caused it specifically or if they were ever unbanned but I seem to remember it happening post-1.12b patch on D2.

Hopefully this gets sorted out for *nix users on D3.

What's actually outrageous is that you think not using Windows takes balls or makes you some kind of revolutionary.

Where did I say it would bother me?

I said that it doesn't exist at this time, so stop acting like you're owed support for using an unsupported OS.
Your English also seems rather bad, mIRC, 30+ friends on linux, all banned, named hackez...

Chinese gold farmer is obvious

The sollution is blizzard would have to release the ban hammer off the legitment nix bans and fix the warden flag so it doesnt continually trigger under wine

Which is what they do in wow, and I'm sure what they will do in d3. Warden has a history of false positives on wine.
